Title: Twister tail vs paddle tail
Post by: WALLEYE WACKER on 02/11/18 16:22 UTC
For me I have caught more fish on paddle tail bait’s and I don’t no if it’s a confidence thing or not. That said I have caught a lot on swim shads. Just wanted to see what you all think.

For me it is a confidence thing.  I fish both but I have more confidence in the paddle tail so I fish it more.  Fish one bait more than the other usually means more fish :D

It’s been paddle tails for me hands down the last few years. Like olsarge refered to, if you use it more your gonna catch more fish on it. For me that means paddle tails for casting, three way droppers, even vertical jigging. Something about having the extra vibration does give a person the “confidence” when it comes to these baits

Prime example came last year. My farewell to the open water season came on the mighty miss. With a handful of walleyes falling victim to casting a 2 3/4” paddle tail to shallow structure. Then picking off some impressive saugers in the tail waters dragging around 3-ways with a p-tail as my dropper. As a river fisherman having that added vibration seems to pay dividends when other presentations falter.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180211/6a74109baba8c636cf74dd7f7ab1a3fb.jpg)

Thembonez great pic really like the fact that we have the ability to make are own bait’s that get the species were after.

For me a paddle tail is like a Thump It or a Ripper, not those boot tailed shad-type minnows. Paddle tails are my mainstay bait for crappies and walleyes/sauger. I’m really itching to soak those three inch Rippers in the Mississippi River. I got some of the 3” Rippers in a couple buddy”s hands and they have nothing but good to say about them. I’m also a big fan of the 4.5” Ring-It’sfor walleye/sauger.

Looking forward to getting all three sizes of the rippers and I know they will get the job done. And the ring it is what 95% of the people on the river throw.

I fish both, as I look for different things in various imitations and presentations.
Sometimes I want the extra thump and/or wag of a swim/boot-tail bait, such as Swimbaits like the Smokin' Shad, but other times I want a more-subdued, light vibration of a C-tail, most times on a 4"-4.5" straight, narrow body, like Ring-it genre plastics.
