How to Make a Panther Martin?--What Do I Need?
« on: 07/14/17 22:27 UTC »
Hey Y'all,

I would like to make some #6 (1/4 oz) size Panther Martin style lures.

I have never made any lures before. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The original Panther Martin uses an inline blade.
You will also need wire of the appropriate size. Most likely .031 wire.
Metal bearing beads are always needed on spinners.
For the body you can buy them or as I do cast and powder paint my own.
Use the Do-It worm rig sinker mold for the Panther Martin body.
I use a wire former to make the loops but round nose pliers can be used.
And of course hooks.
Youtube has some good videos on spinner making.
Parts I buy from Barlows tackle, lure Parts Online, or Janns netcraft.

Start here. http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/content/make_fishing_lures.htm

And watch the videos on YouTube

Thanks for the info. I have seen several beads, but folks have failed to mention what size blades, beads, hooks, and wire.

If you order a janns catalog they have size charts in them.  It would be best to determine what size blade you need/want by holding the blade on a bait you already have up to the size chart.  And I guess I would just go with Andrews suggestion of .31 wire. As far as hooks ide again start with whatever size hook is on the bait your looking to copy.  Hope this helps I don't have any of the spinners your wanting to copy just telling you what ide do if I was looking to make them.
