Not a lot of chatter on Cedar this winter...or any of the other Faribault lakes either. Most of those lakes are crappie/walleye type of waters and winter generally has a decent bite. I think people in the area are getting wise to the internet and not posting so much on successes. If you're going to be in that area by all means hit it as one never knows.

Not to mention the rattlesnakes and ticks with Lyme's disease. The roaming packs of coyotes and wolves are scaring people off too!

There well could be hundreds of shacks out there, but nobody is chatting about any successes. Gotta remember that for 99% of the ice anglers its beer, booze, and BS first, then fishing.

So you are grouping US ice anglers as a bunch of crazy drunk people who can't fish?

Maybe it is just an mn deal.  :P

Touche, however....

I am....unless you fall into that magic 1%.

It is. And  any other place that makes enough ice to fish on. And proper English usage would be "just a MN", not "an mn deal".

To answer your question.  Yes the sport can be fun if you have a hard shack or a portable.  And shockingly you do NOT need beer or booze like some guest think the entire ice fishing world DOES.

I am on the southern half of the "ice belt" so my years are short being on the ice.  If you make it up I guarantee you will have a blast!

I whole heartedly agree with Ctom. A lot of people are just out there for a good time and there is nothing wrong with that. Its disgusting to see what is left behind on the ice after a nice weekend though.

Cedar lake might have been one of those hidden gems. Nothing much on the internet, not much info in the lake map books, etc. And there are Hundreds of shacks out there and they didn't scare me away....
