Swim Shad Color Question
« on: 03/29/14 11:32 UTC »
When looking at the swim shad mold that's sold in the store, of this site, I really like that top color of blue-grey.  Does someone know what was used to make that top color?

Make a medium smoke and then put a little blue in it using a toothpick dipped in blue colorant, very little though. Then slowly add blue hi lite until you get the color you want. Its whats called a "pro blue". Great color over a pearl or white belly.

Not bad. I added a comment back there for you. Looks good as it sits though.

Thanks.  I didn't want it to be identical since it's already been done.  I really like how it changes in the light though.

Over pearl-white the pro blue is a real changeable color depending on how much blue hi lite is in it. Since the base color is a simple smoke, there's no reason that red, green, purple, or orange hi lite and corresponding colorant can't be used to create your own "pro" colors and get the same results.

Another thought on the "pro" colors when using a thin to moderate pearl or white as a belly color, add a line color the same color as the smoke color [blue, green, etc.] and then pump in the smoke. You can't believe how much better the finished baits look doing that and in the sun the colors just jump out of the baits. It takes some practice to pour the thin line color but using some junk plastic you can perfect the operation in short order and the time is well spent.
