Ultra Head Spinnerbaits for Pike/Musky
« on: 04/28/15 10:46 UTC »
Made some of my favorite bucktail spinnerbaits for a friend going to Eagle Lake, Ontario.  This is a 1 oz and 1.5 oz Ultra Minnow head, 6/0 hook, .041 wire.  I team them up with a single #8 Indiana blade.  They are very versatile for pike and Musky.  Its one of those baits you can throw all day.  Work it over weeds, cast parallel to weed edges, or even slow roll it deep.

Very nice and clean ties.  Those'd get bit on my waters for sure.  Even some big bucket mouths would take a shot at em too.  What do you use over your thread?  I like the finish it has.

Them are some awesome looking spinner baits.  He should do well with them.  My brother took a buck tail spinner with double 10's on and came back with all the hair gone .
May your days be filled with sun shine and you always have a tight line. AMEN

Thanks guys

After the thread collar is done I coat the entire head and collar with epoxy.  This was Flex-Coat.  Protects the eyes too.

Those are 'bout as good as it gets!  Nice work Marc.  I'll take 1/2 a dozen assorted, thanks.

Wicked!!!!!!Did you tie in some grizzly hackle as well? It is a nice touch, awesome looking baits that are going to get hammered. I was also wondering if you think the .041 is a bit small for musky?

I was thinking the wire was on the smaller side too.  But seeing as you went with a single blade and light wire, I'm assuming very clear water?  I have used smaller wire fishing gin clear lakes where the fish are spooky.  But I just did inline bucktail, that way if the wire gets mangled, I can cut it and reuse the components and remake it.

I'm sorry typo.. Correction .051 wire for the musky baits.

Yes, some regular saddle hackles for volume and then the grizzly last for the barred look.  Then a little saltwater flashabou.  A group of peacock herl along the back of the under-layer.  I love the peacock herl for adding a natural subtle flash to anything.

Thanks,

Marc
