Marabou Jig

Smalljaw, Do you think there is much difference between using marabou as compared to cross cut rabbit? Both have good movement, but I think the rabbit would hold up better than the marabou? I will tie both but think they will both do the same job.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words. Muskygary, crosscut rabbit does move really well but it is shorter than marabou and it adds more weight. Marabou is surprisingly strong with you spin it instead of just tying full plumes in and when you spin it on the hook shank the individual fibers stand out and it moves by itself in the water just like rabbit but longer. I also get more of a pulsing or breathing action from marabou because it will compress in the water a lot more than crosscut rabbit does because the rabbit hair is shorter and lays closer to the hook than marabou. I use rabbit and I'll do a few of these in rabbit as well now that you mention it but make no mistake, marabou has its place and it holds up remarkably well.

Only the masters define their subject. Gibson defines guitars, Michelangelo defines sculpture, Poe defines poems, and small jaws defines merging hair and feathers into art! His stuff is truely amazing

Great looking jig; and for any who hasn't seen one, this looks exactly like it came from a blue silky chicken!  Fun birds, we raise them.  Great work as always SJ; I agree with Mo, master of hair/feathers and spinnerbaits.

I'll respectfully disagree with Mo's statement that Gibson defines guitars though.  They certainly did once, but now they're mostly not worth what you pay.  Want to see masters defining guitar? Look up Kiesel, Aristedes, Knaggs, or Caparison.
