Newbie powder paint spraying question
« on: 06/29/16 09:14 UTC »
I just picked up a spray gun from TJs Tackle...it is a Badger.  My question is the very lil bit I have played with I notice I get powder build up around the nozzle tip and back over the knurled nut.  Wasn't sure if that is normal??  I'm using the same lil air compressor they sell...it's kinda like an aquarium pump, figd would start with it since already had it.  Would a higher psi compressor improve things?  Lastly...what is the best way to collect overspray?  It's seemed like it just goes everywhere and would be difficult to collect with much effectiveness.

Thanks,
Ryan

It's normal to get a little build up around the nozzle. I just blow it off. Once in a while you'll have to take it apart and clean it. As far as over spray I hold the bait up to the open end of a box with paper towels in it. Your going to waste some. Just part of it.

You don't need much for volume of air or high psi.
I run mine ~1/2 psi or so.
This was recommended to me by Smalljaw and it seems to work the best.
Yes the paint build up is normal on the tip.
You can use plastic grocery bags in a box to catch overspray.
I switch colors often enough I don't bother.
I save it as a color called kitchen sink and will find a use for it someday.

Their brush and the air pump should work. I made a "paint booth" out of a cardboard box with my shop vac taped into a hole in the back.

Ugly...but worked!

The powder paint airbrush that Tj's tackle sells.
I believe that's the powder paint airbrush most people are using.
