February open water walleye
« on: 02/19/17 20:06 UTC »
My local rivers are pretty much ice free after this hot spell. The surface water temp was at 39.7 yesterday so it's time for some jig and plastic fishing.

I wanted to try out the 5" paddle tail so I headed to a spot that has some good size muskie and good size walleyes.
As much as I wanted to show a pic of a big fish I caught with one it just wasn't happening this weekend.

I switched to a 3.5" electric blue swimshad and that did the trick.
Not a lot of fish but good quality today. Here's my biggest at 25" no scale so no weight but a nice healthy female that I of coarse CPRed.

Remember now Mike, you're not that far away. I may come down and horn in on your hot spots.

Thanks guys. And Tom make sure you give me a shout 1st. Water is a little high now, but since there's basically no snow or ice left we should be in for some real steady water levels this spring.
