A little extra custom on some custom jigs!
« on: 04/06/17 19:12 UTC »
So a friend just had a birthday and he just bought a 28' offshore saltwater fishing boat.
So I decided to make him some custom jigs for the new boat.
While I was at it I decided to make up a couple for another friends charter boat as I have an order of rockfish jigs to deliver to him anyway.
These are from a CNC mold from Shawn Collins Customs.
Sizes are 10 oz and 12 oz.
Paint is a basecoat of cadmans white.
A coat of procure superglow white, blue, and orange with a UV blast coating over that.
Then lettering and 3D eyes are installed and all is clear coated with D2T
Hooks are Eagle Claw 8/0 fl316mg on 175# afw 7x7 49 strand ss shark leader with a #5 crimp and a Berkley 250# ss swivel.

Those are really cool Kasolofchrisn. Great idea. I've never seen lures with charter advertising on them. Is that common in Alaska?

I'm guessing not as I've never seen or heard of anyone else doing anything like this before anywhere.
I do have an order for some for another local charter captain.
I suggested his clients have the opportunity to buy a custom Alaskan made jig with his charter name on them to take home along with their cooler of fish and lifetime of memories and he must have thought it a good idea as well.

Yeah since I posted this on my local fishing forum I've gotten a few orders for these from local charter boat captains to marine service providers.
These can be a bit of a pain putting all the lettering on and getting it "just right" and getting the epoxy perfect.
But that's another reason we make custom tackle. Making things nobody else does and making them exceptional quality at the same time.
I see a lot of lures with the manufacturers logo and name on a sticker slapped on a lure.
I've also seen spoons with a custom logo.
But i've never seen this type custom lettering on a jig like this.
It all started when a friend wanted some custom jigs for his father as a birthday gift. What do you buy someone who has all they need and buy what they want?
Well you gotta go custom!
When he asked me to put the boat name on a jig I figured how hard can it be?
Well I tried a lot of options before eventually settling on this one as most just weren't good enough or failed miserably.
Eventually I would like to have the ability to make custom stenciled names, logos etc.
I enquired with sizzix and they said they thought their machine would do it.
That's a lotta money for something that might work.
I may eventually buy one of the fancy stencil cutters like that but not until I'm positive it will work.
These would be some pretty small stencils.
May have to join a crafting forum to see this project get where I want it to be.

Can you get a rubber stamp made and put in paint. Or how did you do such a perfect job.

I just bought a Xerox jig printer from office depot. Put in your jig select jig size and font size and it prints.lol
I tried individual rubber stamps from a local craft store but it just wasn't very good. Hard to line them up perfectly and since the jigs have odd angles and dont lay flat sometimes the ink would smear.
Getting a stamp made for each size jig and each business gets spendy at $11 each.
It's really not that hard to do these this way but im not quite sure im ready to let the cat out of the bag on this one quite yet.

That's ok I don't have any interest in doing custom imprints . You sure do a great job.
