I hit a local lake this morning and fished a shore spot that is always a great early season location. It did not fail, but the fishing was a little slower than I thought it would be. The water is high there and the lake is under a lake-wide no wake rule so it was pretty peaceful out there.
The 2-1/4" Fry done in a junebug body/chartreuse tail under a float on a 1/16 jig caught all 15 of my fish. The breakline I was fishing drops very sharply from 3-1/2' to 4' into twelve feet of water with a bit of current. The float was set at five feet and I kept the jig right on the edge of that break. Worked nicely. I kept five decent crappies for dinner. We're still a long way from the spawn but the crappies will be starting to orient to the prespawn areas real soon now and the fishing will pick up pretty good.
