Once the weather passed this morning that turned out to be a few sprinkles instead of a major blow like the weather terrorists had us thinking, I hit the local lake and tried for my dinner's worth of crappies. I succeeded. The wind could have been a factor had it been blowing from any other direction, but it was in my favor when I got there. Like the last trip the 1/16 ballhead w/wire keeper cast on a #4 Victory round bend hook, purple, wearing the 2-1/4" Fry bait in junebug/chartreuse tail was the ticket.
Still, fishing a deep breakline at about 4-1/2 feet under a small float got the fish right at the edge of the break where it wants to shallow up.
The lake was socked in with clouds but it stayed dry while I was there for the hour or so I fished. I kept enough for our dinner tonight and let the other go play some more. Nice 11 to 12" crappies. Thwater temps are still in to low 50's so it'll be a while before they get to the pre-spawn areas, but they're plenty catchable right now.
