Microwaves, Safe?
« on: 11/27/19 15:37 UTC »
Just getting started custom making soft plastics in my garage.
I am looking for a way to melt plastic.
Is a microwave a safe way to melt plastic?
If not, what are some safe alternatives?

Welcome to the Do-It forums, PJ.

Yes, microwaves are a great way to cook the plastic. There are other methods but microwaves are perhaps the most widely used method of working the plastic that's safe and reliable without costing several hundred bucks or working with an open flame or an open electric heating coil..

And you do not need a high watt microwave either.  With a lower power microwave you can control the plastic temperature better and keep from scorching it.
