I don't use jigs with collars seeing as how they make the hole in soft plastic larger, contributing to their sliding back. If I must buy a collared jig because of a weight/hook size combo, I crush the collar with pliers, cut around it with wire cutters and then snip the flattened lead off. Here's the process of making what I call - the Grub Grip:
24g coated wire used for flower arrangements is easy to use.

Cut a small piece and hold it close to the line tie post:

Wrap the wire tightly around once and snip off one side close to the post:

Bend the wire into an L:

I will not go fishing without the wire grip to hold soft plastics no matter the size:

My jigs are sorted by wt. and hook size and placed in slits in a block of packing foam:

I also use the wire to hold bass jig trailers in place.
Once the trailer is on the hook, I wrap the wire around once into a wire loop, make wire L's and push them into the top of the plastic.

The loop allows good trailer action. Unwind the wire and use it again for another trailer.

Now that's thinking out side the box. Great tip.

Inserted wire into the body:

I use the same wire to hold trailers on bass jigs though in a different manner.
I done this to keep some swimbaits on the jig head after you posted this & it worked great.  :)

If i have a head that doesn't hold baits well then i have no problem using the wire because it definitely works.

Good to see that at least one angler tried my idea considering how many posts I left on different forums.

A lot of guys will try it they just don't post about it. If you look there was 313 views.

update:

The last two times out I caught over 50 fish all on the same Crappie Magnet grub. The lure is still on my pole and will catch another 30 or so fish. The grub grip did its job. A Beetle Spin and thin tail grub I make caught the rest: 38 one day, 24 the next.
Fish caught: all sizes of yellow perch, bass, crappie and sunfish.
The lure is still rigged on a 1/24 oz. ball head jig tied to 10# test braid. I'm not a lure color freak but the lure color is gold-pearl laminate. Can't argue with success!
