Examples of swimbait profiles I pour from molds:

BTW, a candle flame was used to slightly melt each end to be joined and then a battery-powered soldering iron to smooth and strengthen the seam. Crazy glue is messy and doesn't always create a strong join. I suppose it's possible to use a lighter, but with far less control.

Larger bodies allow the use of heavier jigs - in this case 1/24 and 1/16 oz to make the lure more responsive. 1/32 oz would not cut it like for the thinner lure.

Request a Lead Mold / Re: Trokar Style Arky Jig Question.
« Last post by bigjim5589 on 03/26/24 18:18 UTC »
I agree with Jim in the fact that the trokar arky design is superior to the original and it is my absolute #1 flippin jig.  I prefer the standard hook, so to me this this mold needs no modification... plus it takes other brands of standard hooks, which makes it makes it more economical when I have to give a few jigs away to the neighborhood pike.

Frankly, I see little difference in the hook eyes, but since I'm selling jigs, and folks have their preferences, I try to make them happy.  I've had folks argue that they get better hook ups with the cross eye hooks, or they have other reasons they want them. Some have even said they see a leverage advantage, but there's no physical way that can be true, if they actually had any understanding of how levers work!  ::)

I like that TK Arky style with a 4/0 Owner Deep Throat hook, but doesn't seem to be a very popular hook with other folks.  ???

Likely from the late 1960s.

Do-it has never really been in custom business.  I believe you needed to be a close friend of the original creator of Do-it Molds, Melvin Bond.

We have a couple employees still working here after almost a half of a century, but that mold even outdates them.

Nice find and thanks for sharing.

Should accept the Mustad Crimped Hooks 33903. I agree, old one indeed with the patent pending, address and the through hing pin. Add in the mold casting with the address is slightly off center but the cavities seem to line up.

That's an oldie for sure. Nice find. Do-It hasn't been in Waterloo for a looooooong time.

The mold face states it was made for Serle Sutton. The mold also is formatted to take what appears to be an aberdeen hook, not a conventional 90 degree jig hook.

I picked up this custom do it crappie jig mold in 1/16oz and 1/8oz I think are the sizes. Anyone know when do it stopped doing custom requests or when the crappie jig was introduced?  Looking to put a circa date on this one. Also, anyone recognize the name Serle Sutton on the mold? Would love to know any history.
