Or maybe I should ask "what color or combination color is your most productive or your absolute go-to?
For me its pretty basic: purple/chartreuse tail or junebug/chartreuse tail. They both do me good in equal measure and I'll fish both interchangeably with the same degree of confidence. Both are fished on a purple head color with a bit of blue micro-glitter or a plain un-painted head. Not at all fussy on the head whether painted or un-painted. The next best plastic color in line would be a clear plastic stuffed with PartyCrasher glitter finished with a chartreuse tail.
For years my plastics and jig boxes looked like rainbows with all the colors in there but today things are pretty basic keeping most everything in the colors mentioned here. Yes, I have a box of heads in different colors that comes along and yes I have some other color combos in the plastic division but really I haven't used anything from either of these boxes in years.
Right now my junebug plastic is whipped up 4 ounces of Essential plastic and using 8-10 drops of the Essential junebug colorant with a couple three drops of Essential black added. I toss in a chunk of UV enhancer powder and when the plastic is at 320 degrees I whip in a load of .015 green glitter,. Lots of glitter. This makes a junebug that is a bit darker than the traditional smokey purple, but it's what works for me. The fish love it.
My chartreuse is X2 chartreuse colorant along with a couple, maybe 4 drops, of green chartreuse X2 and a healthy dose of blue hi lite. Lastly I stir in a shot of uv powder just prior to cooking. Both of the latter ingredients really super charge any chartreuse. The Essential chartreuse is a great colorant in lieu of the X2 colorant and the Essential colorant does not hard pack.
Right now I pretty much start the fishing day with either the purple or junebug with chartreuse tails. What do you use in confidence?
