Our fluke bite has taken off in a big way and the fish have shown a real interest in larger baits, like this 7" Wutz-It from Do-Its gallery of molds. Right now the pro blue color shown has been the producer in this bait but other colors will work.
Seen with the flukes, the Quakin Shad in the blue/purple heavy glitter in clear plastic over the heavy silver flake in clear has been an outstanding color on bright days or when the sun pops out of cloud cover for a while. I'll be doing the flukes in this color as well.
Other colors that have produced with the fluke and Qaukin Shad but watermelon red flake over pearl is a strong contender for third place.
All of these have been fished on Do-Its Weighted Hook cast on VMC's extended locking bend Wide Gaps. 4/0 with a 1/8 weigh cast on the hook has been prime with both of these baits of late what with the extra current hanging around as the water levels continue to recede back to normal levels after our bout with major flooding on the big river. Honestly. a 5/0 is going to get cast up to use with the flukes so a bit more hook is able to be exposed.
Weeds edges in 5-8 feet of water has been great cover for the last couple weeks using both baits. Retrieve rates of course are variable, but the Wutz-It brought back with a steady slow retrieve along the weed lines has been deadly.
My first bass on this 7" beast was a dandy, thick and heavy in the 22" range.
