What would cause this in a new mold?
« on: 10/01/20 19:17 UTC »
Received this new crappie fluke mold in the mail yesterday. Why would it do this, on the right side of the picture around the tail?
Thanks for your help.

Try a little more clamp pressure. Don’t try to kill it!  Then try a little less injection pressure. See what that does to lessen the flashing.

Good advice. Plus maybe shoot with a slighlty lower plastic temperature.

Two clamps one on each side of injection hole midway to the hinge and the open end
The flashing looks like there wasn’t a clamp on that side.
Most the time if you push to hard it flashes the whole mold.

Thanks for the advice. I had two clamps, just not tight enough on that right side.  2nd shot at a slower injection speed and slightly lower plastic temperature.

Still a slight flash but better also check the vents on that side sometimes if it can’t vent it will flash and that could be clamp pressure to.

Check the pin at the end of the mold, see if it is coming together and the hole is big enough and deep enough for the pin

Yeah more clamp pressure is needed and for  me I let my plastisol  cool down so that it is just hot enough to inject the mold I guess by that I mean thicken

On some of mine I use 6  of the plastic spring clamps. Since doing that I haven’t had any of them flash at all. I put one on each corner & two across top from the injection port & never have a problem.

I use C Clamps from Harbor freight on my molds. Haven't had a chance to play with the molds today. Went fishing with the kiddos.

Better than playing with molds. Barely, but better.
