Beach Trip 2022
« on: 06/27/22 20:58 UTC »
Another family beach trip to the Outer Banks has come and gone. Had a good time and ate exceptionally well. The fishing in the Roanoke Sound was tough though. No big numbers to brag about, but those that were caught were sold competitors. A mixed bag with striped bass, trout, flounder and croaker. I did catch my first robbin fish and snagged into two manta rays.  That was a sleigh ride I don’t want to ever take again. Baits that got bit were the ultra minnow and manic mullet with or without deer hair with a slick shiner in white or MF green earthworm; custom made chatter bait with arky head or manic mullet head (without weed guard  ;) ) Never got bit on a plane jane curly tail the entire week. Lost three nice stripes on hard runs back into structure. Oh and I had orcas surfing next to me a few mornings and a sea turtle came nearby to say hello.
Water temperature stayed between 72-75° all week with 5-10mph N to NE winds from Wednesday on. Pretty tough washing machine waves in the plastic boat. Talked to a home owner that was there and he said they were not catching anything, nor were the people he had spoken to. Here’s to hoping I can make the trip next year to try again.

I was stationed (and did some fishing) in Florida years ago and the only fish I do not recognize is the one below... what is it?

Roger dat, eFish!
In all correctness they're Sea Robins but I have called them Robinfish since I was a kid because Robinfish was told to me.
