Forgive me if this is a duplicate post, but I don't use jigs with (keeper) collars and instead attach a grub grip I found works no matter the lure size or jig used.
Like all of you I got tired of tearing up my solft plastic lures whether on jigs or skirted jig trailers and came up with this idea 10 years ago. It's basically a wire clip that holds plastics in place and allows them to be used over and over even after catching 20 fish.

First off, for you ball head jig users, no collar is always better. The collar may hold the lure for a while but splits the soft plastic at the same time. Soon the lure slides down the hook after a number of fish  are caught.
no-collar jig, wire cutters and 24g floral arrangement wire ($1.77 at Walmart):

Wrap one side once around tightly, clip the wire close and tighten with pliers after which you bend the remaining wire into an L shape:

Now all you have to do is rig the lure and swing the wire into the body:

Inserted wire into the body:

I use the same wire to hold trailers on bass jigs though in a different manner.

Also have a tip on how to keep a nose-hooked trailer on if interested.

I done this to keep some swimbaits on the jig head after you posted this & it worked great.  :)

Good to see that at least one angler tried my idea considering how many posts I left on different forums.

If i have a head that doesn't hold baits well then i have no problem using the wire because it definitely works.
