I recently picked up a laminate plate for my small fry mold. After I remove the plate and inject the second color, it fills in the empty space but also covers the first color just a little. What am I doing wrong? I appreciate any help.

Make sure the bottom side is firmly back in place, then use slightly cooler plastic and slowdown the injection speed/pressure on the plunger.
-
Thanks for the help. I'll give it a try.

Thanks again Tom. Injection temp was the key. Everything works good now.
-
What temp do you think the second color was at when it worked good ??
apx. 350 ??
-
On the smaller fry molds and a second injection, 350 is too hot at normal injection speeds/pressure. 320-330 is better and inject slower, holding pressure when the injector rod stops.
-
Just what Tom said. I was at about 350 and had the problem. Tried at about 320 and slowed down and no problems.

The gates are quite large on these baits so if the plastic is too warm [think thin] or if the injection rate is too fast [too much pressure] it causes the belly side to lift up when the second color goes in and you'll get that color above and below the already in place color.

Got cha , makes sense.

Bass Boys..... Sorry I missed you. Welcome to the Do-It forums !

I've always kept my temps the same to ensure a good weld, but without question, injecting S-L-O-W-E-R is key for keeping the other half of the laminate in place.

Thanks ,
I only have 1 mold with a plate and its a bigger bait , Most of my laminates are done hand pour and with that it needs 350 to bond . The hand pour does not put pressure on the 1st half like an injection mold would.

BBoys....if you are hand pouring then you should keep the temp of each plastic very close to each other. Injecting its not so important but you still need to have somewhere in the neighborhood of 320+ degrees to weld well. Hold some pressure really binds the weld.
