Outer Banks 2024
« on: 06/28/24 21:38 UTC »
Another family beach trip and another yearly dose of salty fishing. Although the striped bass had packed up and headed out of the Roanoke Sound, the trout were there in full force. Most were in the 14”-16” range. I did bring several 18” to hand and the biggest was 20”. Managed to pick up a handful of flounder too around 16”.  Honorable mentions included two blue fish, a couple solid croker, and a sea robin.
Of all the artificial lures I threw (paddle tails, fluke, wave worm, metal jigs, blade baits) the top producing bait was a shrimp mold I had picked up years back paired with a 3/8 Style 9 shad head. This even out fished a 3 Gulp shrimp. I’m pretty sure it is a Bears mold. Here’s a link to an older post I found referencing it.

Job well done. I’ll get my salt need taken care of in a couple weeks on a halibut excursion.

Bears had some nice molds. It’s a shame he lost it all to the flooding he was caught in.
