This Fall's weather
« on: 09/20/24 07:37 UTC »
Holy Moly, will we ever start seeing some actual fall temps? I just spent a great ten days at the cabin north of Two Harbors Minnesota and sweat more than if I'd been home mowing the lawn every day. All day. Just prior to leaving for the cabin we fished, and the water temps were anywhere from 69 to 74 degrees. These mid-80-degree days are not doing any favors as far as getting the water into a fall fishing mode. The bass were still hitting top water stuff aggressively, but the crappies hadn't really shown much interest in a shallower bite. They were still hanging in pretty deep water for the most part. We did manage a few at about 6 feet down over 17 feet of water using the little lipless baits I've shown here, however the hits were very soft. Plastics down deep did not fare well. I'm hoping the forecast drop in daytime temps holds true this weekend so my fishing next week will pick up.

The fishing on the big lake, Superior, was poor. I managed one nice Whitefish for the smoker and a ten pound pike that had two lampreys hanging on it. The lampreys came off while I was getting the hooks out of the pike and I pretty much stomped them to mush, then put the pike back to heal.

Just got home from your neck of the woods. On the way home spent a week above Lake Superior just camping and fishing along the way. The views were amazing. It rained in International Falls and then for three weeks it was sunny. Coming out of camp the first week it was a heavy frost that weekend and then back to nice weather again. Here's a picture I took on a hike in Pukaskwa National Park. One of the prettiest parks I've ever been to.

There's something about the north woods along Lake Superior that that makes time spent there a treasure.

83 degrees here today at 10 AM, and being warmer here is not unusual. It's been very dry here too this year. We can use some rain, but not with the storms that often accompanies the rain.

I'm still getting some okra and a few tomatoes from my garden and have planted some collar greens for through the winter, but the rest is done for the season.

We can complain about the weather situation, but nothing we can do about it.

I haven't bothered to go fishing in awhile either, but I think I need to do that soon.  :-[

I've been going up there since I was 10. Maybe missed five years of all those 56 years. It gets in your blood.
