Title: River crappies
Post by: ctom on 06/16/20 15:37 UTC
A friend and I hit the Mississippi River this morning early to snoop out some crappies and maybe bass later on. The bass expedition fell apart with the wind blowing like a wild man but the crappies entertained us nicely and they were dandies. We did not catch a great number of them but we only tossed one back because of size. I kept four 13" + fish for tomorrow's dinner. My buddy took a few too.

These fish came from an area of full current. It never ceases to amaze me how strong these guys get when they're acclimated to current. I had one break fairly new 6 pound Nanofil before we could get the net to it.

Just as we loaded the boat up a mess of jetheads showed up so we must have timed out departure just right. With full sun beating down by ten it didn't take long for it to get HOT in the boat and the bite had cooled off. We did some snooping further downstream but found no fish willing to hit so we wrapped it up before the boat's temp hit broil. Wonderful early morning on the water though.

I wondered. Some have no regard for fisherman.

A friend and I were on a big lake in Madison fishing the shoreline for bass and pike when a speed boat thought it would be fun too use the shoreline boats a slalom buoy’s so my buddy had a five diamonds on and on the second pass he bounced it off the speed boat and that end the issue. It’s too bad that people leave there head in the parking lot with vehicle and trailer.

Thanks for the reminder. I think I'll give him a jingle.
