Well, the weather did it....

Ma and I headed up to the cabin on Weds and planned to return on Saturday, but...!

I had the long rod for breakwater casting, however the wind on Weds afternoon was hard from the NW at over 30 mph sustained so the fishing plan for the afternoon got scrubbed. We got all of our errands done along with some stuff that needed doing to get ready to close the cabin up later this month. I was up at 5am yesterday thinking I might be able to hit the breakwater but the wind, if anything, was worse. And it was dripping some snow. 28 degrees too. So, I started a fire in the Ben Franklin and turned the news and weather on. Snow possible for the day Thursday with lingering off and on showers so wet was in the offing. The forecast for today was possible heavy snow but certainly snow of 2" or so. After hearing the weather, we decided to pack it and fly.

Instead of hustling right down I35 for home we opted to take Wisconsin's State 35 which sort of borders the western border with Minnesota and offers some unbelievable colors at this time of the year and we were not denied in the least. We stopped in a nice place in Prescott, Wisconsin and had a nice dinner and a beer and finally got home about dark. While our usual return would have taken maybe 4-1/2 hours this 6-and-a-half-hour trek was well worth the extra time. I've got the fishing gear stowed for winter now and can look forward to next year.

There’s days that you just have to call it. Sure sounds like you had a good time nonetheless. As the years go by I now realize how much I missed going to and coming from fishing. I just didn’t take the time to appreciate the world in general going to or coming from. I was more worried about fishing and what needed done once I got home.
