18 degrees this morning and we hit our little backwater bonanza about 3/4 of an hour before sun rise. When we arrived we found a little current but otherwise clear water. Within an hour we had sheets of thin shale ice slipping thru our area which, while still fishable, just added to the torment of iced guides. In spite of the ice issues we brought home 8 very decent crappies pushing the 12 1/2" mark and none under 12"...consistent sized fish. Same depth as the other trips, same baits. Just a bit chillier. We both think that with this week's cooler weather we'll likely be iced out for a while. But it has been a super good fall for us so no sorries. And fish for din-din again tonight.
