Goby Blades

Efishnc,   At the gathering, you had asked to see those goby blades that I make.  The first one is the Stand Up Jig head mold and the second one is an Erie Head mold.

Those eyes are little black plastic eyes (half spheres) that you get about 100 for $.49 at Michaels or Joanne's.  I just paint them gold and them dot a black pupil.  I super glue them in place and then when I top coat with epoxy they stay on pretty well.

The base color of the bait is just watermelon powder paint over brass. One dip so a little of the brass shine shows through.  I air brush a little sand color on the belly.  That irregular "goby spot" shows up on the dorsal fin of a real goby.  I add it because if you observe gobies under water, that spot is very prominent in their appearance.  Tan with a black center.

I hate to be " That Guy " but how do you get those heads on a blade ?

2XL, I did a small tutorial once and maybe someone can link it for us.  I'm not good at that.

But basically you line up the blade where you want it in any mold.  Close it and hold tight and pour.  You will get flash, lead may even pour on the bench a little,  but just clean up the head with a side cutter, knife, file, etc.  A lot of it just breaks off. 

You wouldn't want to make 100 like this but for 4-6 at a time or working on prototypes, it works fine.

The only time it doesn't work is when the blade has to be really close to the hinge and you cant get it to close properly.
