A grown one

It's been a few years since I've held an Iowa largemouth in the 7's!

Lake water temps here have been fluctuating from mid 40's to low 50's with a good stain.

Had about an hour and a half to fish after work and all of the initial damage was done on a homemade Arky jig tied with Living Rubber. Big believer in repetitive casts in the spring which paid dividends but the biggest ones in the school wouldn't entertain the jig, no matter which angle or cadence. This one unloaded on a 7" line-thru on the first cast. A few more of her friends did as well on consecutive casts. Peak time to stroll big softies over their heads while they're still moderately deep, schooled up, and competing for a few more big meals, preparing for the stress of spawn.

Made a few more culls with the big soft bait and had to bolt and left them biting. :'(

Fun little session nonetheless!

That's a tank Brennan! Nice catch.

I don't think our bass area on the river is in the 50's yet as we've had enough rain up north to raise the level a bit. Its back down to normal now but our local lake is waking up now and the crappie bite is starting so we fish there until the silver sides begin spawning. Then we hit the river backwaters in earnest.

I think I'm headed to the Big River this weekend to snoop around! She's high and still rising which means I might be hunting for them behind the trees and on the railroad tracks but that's spring Bass fishing on the Mississippi! Unless you could convince the Corps on your pool to hold some water back- maybe they'd trade a stringer of Crappies for a week of low pull?

The Crappie are going nuts right now in our neck of the woods.

Good luck to you!

Our local lake has gone no-wake and is yet another foot higher than yesterday. We're going to chance it at the big river. Since the river has dropped back to near normal level, we're going to hit the backwaters instead of fighting high, dirty water with a mess of current. I'll take both the crappie bucket and the bass bucket along with the two rods for each type of fishing. A friend was down yesterday and said the backwaters were around 50 degrees so the bass should be hitting along with the crapsters. We'll do the crappies until about 8:30, then switch to the bass.
