Going to a fly tying class this week what to expect

Smalljaw has some great tutorials and is a member here. He’s a great American that is willing to share his knowledge.  Great bass ties and a lot of knowledge from one of our own members. Look him up on YouTube.

I gotta say that all though a cheap vise works great to start out with it would be very hard to get me to give up my much nicer rotary vice that I ty on now.  As far as a magnifier I have one with the light built in I got at menards for like $30 and mounts right to my bench. I use it more for light placement than I  do for the magnification. For me it feels weird to ty anything looking through it.

Greatly appreciate the advice. I’m going to keep checking in to it and reading on the subject. It looks fun and relaxing indoors but I am also having fun shooting plastics

Develop good technique vs using a magnifier. You'll be really glad you did...especially as you get older.

When I taught fly tying I really discouraged their use. You can tie a size 20 midge better with good thread technique than a magnifier that makes you want to barf!
