A buddy and I fished a local lake and found a 20 foot flat that was about 100 feet wide and ran for a while and in places it was covered with crappie pods. Our best fishing came off the flat down to about 14-15 feet, no float, just let the jig/plastic swim along as we drifted in the wonderful blow going on.. The crappies would grab the bait and self hook. We were using the 2-1/4" Fry bait, purple w/ chartreuse tail on a 3/32 Do-It Round Ball Head with the keeper wire cast on a Victory 11149 V-Loc #4 black nickel hook. Four pound XL line was used.
Sorry for the lack of a pic or two.... the phone was dead when I was about ready to leave so it stayed home to recharge.
As was hinted, the wind was a real monster this morning; all day in fact and tomorrow is supposed to be even worse. All this ahead of a serious cold front due here mid-afternoon on Weds. Today was the first day in a couple years where the battery for the trolling motor actually gave up the ghost after starting with a full charge. The wind just sucked the energy right out of it trying to stay on the fish.
We tried a couple other known late-fall areas and did manage to pluck a couple fish from each of those spots before the big blow arrived, but long story short, the wind really made the fishing a challenge. Had the wind not been a factor I think we could have tripled the catch numbers, but some fish is better than no fish.
