Fantastic Crappie Day
« on: 12/02/23 19:33 UTC »
Weather and wind played nice today so I took full advantage of the opportunity. What a day!  Had trouble locating fish at first but dialed things in. I revisited a previous point and located fish holding at 20-25’ water over 35’ that sloped down to 60’ deep. There must have been a good size sunken tree or trees due to loosing several jigs. Well worth it though. Well over 20 today with many of them in the 11”-12” range.  You know it’s a good day when you’re able to lip many of the crappie at the boat side. Note the musky mark on the crappie.

Looks fun. We're setting ice here and I am losing open water. We hit a marina the other day and had open water but not very far away, maybe 75 feet, the ice was holding tight in spite of near 40 degrees and full sun. The water temp was steady at about 34-35 degrees so with the clouds and cooler temps I think that the marnina's last offering of open water has likely shaled over. We may run down for a look-see but I am not holding my breath for fishing.

Those 11 to 12 inch crappies are nice fish for the table. A handful of those perch would be dandy too.

Congrats. My buddy & me  caught several today in the white capping waves but most were little. At least we caught though.
