'Dipping' plastics to increase body size
« on: 05/28/22 01:27 UTC »
Lure modifications are usually done for these reasons:
1. change in action
2  change in shape/ profile
3. change lure size - length and/or diameter
All three affect each other. Modifications can make a difference - or at least seem to when fish bite the modified lure as well as the original.

Dipping the body of a soft plastic lure increases its profile and size (diameter and length). The tail was already wide, so the mod matched the body to it. All homemade lures must be tested and this one was no different to establish the future need for dipping in a Pyrex cup of hot liquid plastic. It did great any time it was fished.

North Alabama has had some rain and actual flash floods just 10 miles south of us.
It will straighten out eventually. Good luck senkosam.

Obviously so. Looks like you found the response trigger on those fish. Glad you could get out and have success.
I used to use a 6" Mann's Jelly worm in black almost exclusively for a couple years until I wore them out on it.
It's been many years since I've tried straight black myself.
May have to pour myself some all black baits and give it a shot again. You have inspired me  :)

What size lead head are you using for those pictured?

Larger bodies allow the use of heavier jigs - in this case 1/24 and 1/16 oz to make the lure more responsive. 1/32 oz would not cut it like for the thinner lure.
