is there anywhere to buy 0.004 glitter other then MF manufacturing. it doesn't matter were it comes from any help would be appreciated

The glitter sold on Do-Its site in the lead section with those paints is close to .004. Limited colors though. Check the automotive paint and additives for glitters. Several of them sell the fine stuff.

Very true on automotive paints supplies. At work we stock the Lil Daddy Roth in .004 it’s the baby series. You can order it through them or get with me I might can get it for you slightly cheaper. Heck if it’s something I can use and you don’t need 2 full ounces I might be willing to split with you.
Rothmetalflake.com
Also check out tropical glitz metal flake I don’t have a way to get a discount on it like I do Roth but that’s a great flake that I believe comes pretty small and it’s a great family company who’s proceeds go to a great cause

Thanks for that Roth link! Lots of ideas came from there!

Awesome. That irredecent one at the top should be interesting.

^^agreed^^
I’m liking the gold one, that would look good with the few colors of dye we have. It’s too bad all the Michaels we have are way across town. Hobby Lobby is less than a mile away but I have read their glitters are not good for lure use long term maybe you guys can confirm or deny that.
-
I use plenty of hobby lobby glitter. The only ones I've had problems with are blue and red and that's just that they bleed. But do-its blue bleeds after a few reheats too. I use glitter from any place I find a color I like.
-
Fair enough
I appreciate the answer I’m going to grab some blue metal flake from work and reheat it a few times and see what that does.
-
Does the gutter from Michael's or hobby lobby melt with the plastic while heating or reheating sorry this probably a has been asked before. I'm new to this
-
No it doesn't melt.
-
No it doesn't melt.
Thank you Mike J I have both right near me
-
Some of it mostly red will bleed and of coarse blue bleeds no matter where you get it. I use glitter from where ever I see a color I like.

I thought I read some where on here that it would melt if no high temp

Losing color and bleeding is worst thing I've had or maybe curl a little. It's cheap so if you get a bleeder your not out much. Blues and reds are the only I've had any problems with.

Awesome thanks for the insight on that

A lot of the getter that you will get from the craft stores will probably bleed you have to be careful on temperature try to keep the temperature around 325 on most of the stuff that you will get out of the craft stores. I am working with a large manufacturer on glitter I will post later on this is holographic type of glitter.

Bears Baits used to have a "shad glitter". He ran out and was unable to get more. Would love to find a copy of it. (Down to my last jar!)

Starting out a guy needs everything going in his direction and using proven products will help in that regard. Once you're getting a feel for this stuff you can poke around in after-market things but you're far better off using reputable products. You'll find such at Do-It. I mix Do-It .015 green, blue, copper and purple glitter together in equal portions to make what I call my bluegill blend. I use a half-pint canning jar/lid and simply dump one container of each color in it and mix it up with the cap on. I use this blend in clear plastic and its beautiful. I found some glitter at a Hobby Lobby that had all four of these colors and 8 others in a "set" and bought one thinking it was cheaper. I did the mix per usual. A few days later I grabbed the jar of el jappo cheapo stuff and just as I addedit to my batch of plastic I noticed that the whole jar had changed color
. Too late for the batch but I coked it up anyway. At about 290 degrees I was looking at a big ugly wad of plastic that wasn't really orange but not quite brown either but was full of silver glitter. The stuff bled dry in the jar and with heat the color washed right off the underlying silver mylar.
I know its tempting to hit those craft shops for some of this stuff but give yourself a chance to get acquainted with the plastic before you start going to the cheap.

i came up with a solvent test for hobby glitter that has worked for me. i take caps from water bottles an fill them with rubbing alcohol! put a small amount of glitter in it. if the alcohol takes on the color of the glitter then its a bleeder an it will bleed in your hot plastic. fast test an you don't need to waste plastic to find out if it will bleed. the recollections an creatology glitter works from michaels an tree house studio glitter works from hobby lobby.
