Title: Weather
Post by: Jason on 02/12/12 08:54 UTC
It's 32 degrees out right now. Not cold by some standards, but plenty chilly by ours. Weatherman says one more day of this and then we'll see the 60's again.

Come on warm weather!

Sniff...Sniff.... :'(

Yesterday.....-9 ...with wind from the N at 20...gusting to 30...Heck of a time setting up the ice fishing shelter without it blowing away! Crappies were hitting the 1.75" Small Fry like crazy as the sun came up. Abruptly stopped as the sun came up...starting seeing Northern Pike on the camera ...and the crappie really don't like that!

Is Lake Fork filling back up? Can you use your boat house yet?

Walleye fishing the other day the braid froze to our reels every cast.  Before every cast we had to clear the ice out of the guides.  Water was 36 degrees air was 24 degrees without windchill.  Going away this week to FL and can't wait to warm up some.

I more foot to go as long as it looks like it will continue to rise.

17 and sunny here in the north this morning. Just came home from church and the wind was huffing it up pretty good again. I deal with the cold fairly well but I do not like the wind. Anything more than a whiff and I'm tired of it.

We're supposed to be back in the 30's during this up-coming week so I think the boat will come out for a trip to the Mississippi for walleyes. Got that open water itch after reading about all the open water fishing you southern characters are doing.

We have had mild weather all winter in Nor Cal.  It is crazy.  Days are in the mid 60's with sunshine and mornings in the 30-40's.  Very little rain - about 20% of normal.  January, Feb, Mar are usually the rainiest months so we have a chance in the next six weeks or so.  We get almost no rain in the late spring, summer, and fall so we are dependent on those three months for the bulk of our water supply.  Due to the poor planning of our officials we have very little storage given the number of people.  So, even when we have a good year like we did last year most of that excess water goes down river to the ocean and does not help us this year.   :-\

Low water does affect the spawn at Clear Lake (one of our biggest big bass haunts).  Clearlake is a natural lake that averages about 15 ft deep in the north and 30 ft in the south.  A lot of the fishing gets done in 5-7 feet of water around the tules.  The lack of water keeps the tules out of play which really hurts the survival rates for young bass and limits feeding opportunities for growing bass.

Hoping for some good rain in California in the next 6 weeks.

I agree wholehartedly with BD re the lack of rain in No Cal.  It's reaching critical mass.  We'll get a couple hours of no more than a drizzle and it won't rain again for a week.  Several of our foothill lakes are close to imposing a "no wake" restriction on the entire lake.  I heard that one nearby lake has man made bass structure some 50 feet out of the water.  Dry tules at Clear Lake would be a major bummer.  I don't know how they did it, but I think those Texas guys somehow figured out a way to take our water.  It might have something to do with the Tri-Lateral Commission.

 :o

We didn't take it.  We're up a foot or two, but still in a drought status.  Diane and I drove across the 514 Bridge today and I couldn't believe it - no water either side.  Just stumps, dirt and a few puddles.  I would hate to guess how many acres were like that (hundreds).  I should have stopped and got a pic but it was overly depressing.  The mean depth of Fork is 7', when we are down ~7' it is bad...

Things are good here in IN. I have had the boat out like four times since x mas. We have had more 50 deg days this winter then I can remember.  With hardly no snow.

If the average depth of Fork 7 feet and you are down 7 feet you got them hemmed in pretty well.  With all the shoreline vegetation that has grown; when it does come back up you should have some really good spawns.
It is cold and bad windy in North Alabama. It was 19 degrees this morning after a high of 34 yesterday with 20 - 30 mph winds.  A lot of shad have died in the last 48 hours.
