Watched a great video the other day about cold water Bass and tail spins.
https://www.wired2fish.com/winter-fishing/how-to-trick-cold-water-bass-with-tail-spins/.
Hadn't ever seen such a thing and though it might be a good one to buy and try.
But then I got to thinking I should be able to concoct something that would come close? Should have know someone came up with something, and right on Do-Its web site!

Not sure who wrote this up?
Has anyone tried them?

These are other tails spins but the mod you show is realistic as you can get.

That's a great idea for a shad spawn bait. Maybe put a ballbearing swivel on the back to make that blade really flash.
-
Reminds me of the Mann's Little George. We used to use them a long time ago. I think they are coming back into play again.
-
There are guys by me that use the bottom one I post to catch whitebass. They use double jigs when the fish come to the surface by the boat and when there out of jig casting range they use the tail spin.

Not sure who wrote this up?
I'm virtually positive this article was written by forum member "Partycrasher" (aka Marc) hailing from S.E. Wisconsin. However, I think he prefers blade baits over tail-spinners (not that it should detract from his work) because he typically fishes deeper water where blade baits have a notable advantage over tail-spinners. Conversely though, I actually prefer tail-spinners over blade baits because of their consistent action with smaller sizes and less rod movement (which is not to say they cannot be fished aggressively) in shallower water... the bottom line is that they are fish getters for sure.

Whom ever wrote the article said to contact him through the magazine if they had any questions. Wonder what magazine it was?
Still trying to figure out how they had the attached the spinner blade too.
-
I'll assume a bead is behind the spinner blade then the wire bent and snipped. The blade would need a bead as a bearing to spin on.

He wrote for Midwest Outdoors... (which I think is no more).
As for attaching the blade, ctom is right on (because they all attach pretty much the same).

I have been playing with some tail spins myself lately...

Marc did write that for MWO, which is still around and he continues to write for them.
21, those are some fantastic baits. Appreciate you sharing them.
-
21, fantastic!
I noticed some of your work on another forum, may have saved me from trying bearings?
I'm guessing a "shad bait" mold?
Thanks.
-
Yes... It's a modified shad bait lure mold with a through wire.
Thanks...

I guess the rumor I heard about MWO closing its doors was incorrect... thanks for the correction.

I like the mod, 21... not sure if your top pattern is supposed to be a walleye (or maybe smallmouth), but it looks outstanding!
-
Just a perch... Thanks.
-
Is the similar vibe jig pattern a perch as well?
-
Yes, Same color paints etc... Weird how pics differ in different lighting and cameras.
-
Huh... (the bars definitely lend to the perch pattern, but I never would have guessed based on the drab tones)... I think it kinda looks like an 'eye as well, though not as much as your spins.
-
I actually rushed the paint job on the tail spinners.... I normally add some orange on the fins or belly to set it off... The fish don't care, So it's not important to me when they are going into my box.
-
Clevis I use that allows you to change blade

I have about every type of changeable blade clevis's, Including those and I have not found one I like. None of them spin like the clevises I use.
-
21xdc the ones you use are the same that I use but I carrie some with the second clevis when I need to change things up on the fly.
-
Ok guys thanks for all the input but I'm still eyeballing the blade on the jig from the article.
I'm thinking that the wire goes through the blade and there's no clevis? I've blown the photo up but just can't get a good look.
I'm thinking it's a "in line spinner blade"? maybe they won't work or may work better but I'll bet someone here well educate me.
Thanks Mark
-
I have made those years ago.... I had problems with the hooks tangling on the shaft and blade.... Maybe the "in-line" spinner blade would be better.
