Title: Transparent Red
Post by: Shaunm81 on 04/09/19 16:42 UTC
Hi anyone know where I can get a good transparent red colorant?  I have the opaque do it red colorant  just would like a nice looking transparent red.  Wanting to try something a little different I guess and what color glitter would look decent in a transparent red? Thanks guys

The red I think your looking for will only be achieved with a dye. Check Ispikeit and keep in mind that dyes are bleeding colors.

I use what is now the essential red from Do-It.  3-4 drops per 4 oz gets me a nice transparent red. I throw red and silver flake in it as well to add some flash.  Its a deep red but you can see through it. Its hard to tell with the white paper towel behind but it pops in the sunlight.

lureworks has a non-bleed clear red, i have it but have not used it yet, they also have a couple other reds that do bleed but are somewhat transparent.

I forgot to add, the essential red will bleed

I have CCM Red NB which is rebottled MF.  Just use light doses of it to yield a mostly-transparent color, but will usually have a slight cloudiness over "transparent" bleeding dye colorants.

I do this with Chartreuse as well...and Yellow...just don't expect rich colors this way, but that's fine by me.

I make a "Mellow Yellow" this way, with CCM Yellow NB (rebottled MF).  Just a few drops of Yellow, a mild hit of Bronze Hilite and mild hits of .040" and .015" LC Brown flakes.
