Well, figured I would whine around on here about breaking my dumb self cause the family is tired of hearing it. This past Sunday I had left knee blowout number 3 or 4. Can’t remember now. This one was different though. It felt like breaking a rubber band and internally sounded like a 22 round going off. So now it’s locked up, hurts like the devil, and I appear to have a fluid filled grapefruit sized knee. Getting in/out of the vehicle is something to behold for sure. Got a full leg brace from the ER last night and will find out particulars tomorrow at the orthopedic specialist.
I’m going to go out on a limb and assume wet wading for smallmouth won’t be happening this summer. Also, let me just mention we have 17 days until our annual family beach trip. I get up at 4:00 am all week and kayak fish the sound until 10:00 am then we head to the beach. Not sure of the brace’s saltwater ratings but I’m going to find out. This concludes my whining session. Thanks

Whining is allowable when it interrupts your normal fishing routine. Get well soon fishermanbt!

Lol. Thanks.

Wow be careful man. You can vent to us anytime and I hope you get well soon.

Blowout number 3 or 4???... too bad the lemon law couldn't help you out on this one ::)
-
Sure hope they get you fixed right this time. And hope you don’t have brace issues from the saltwater.
-
I went a few years not being able to hunt or wade fish with my back!! I hear ya!! And the brace's are not salt water friendly!! Trust me!!

Orthopedic appointment went better than anticipated. Won’t know for sure what kind of damage there is until the MIR next week but he was confident that I didn’t tear up a whole bunch of stuff. Isolated to the ligament and maybe the meniscus on the inside part of my knee. Got me an expensive brace today and she assures me that it is not saltwater proof. I said I’d take my chances. Today was great. I took the stairs (two flights) at work slowly. I have been putting in a good deal of at home physical therapy trying to get it loosened up.

I'm sure happy for you that things are looking better now. Sometimes its not the injury that holds up the healing though....I'm trying to get my care provider and Mayo Clinic to work together so I can better address my heart issues and so far its not working out too well..

Well, test results show an old torn acl injury and meniscus damage. Sounds like we’ll be discussing surgery come my follow up appointment. Crap!
If I don’t get some new fishing/bait making gear out of this something’s wrong.
-
Hope for a issue free recovery and you are able to get some bait making time in after you heal some. What do you fish for the most.

Hope you heal quickly and get back on the water. Remember that excuses are best used before their expiration date. Get a new mold and blame it on the pain meds.

^^^^ I second this idea. Get two molds maybe so you don't get bored. Or three even to promote mind expansion.

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and kind words. Oh you guys got my back! Three molds would do me just fine. I really enjoy fishing for smallmouth and musky. However, I do like chasing those crappie when I get tired of casting.
Not sure how this beach trip and kayaking fishing the sound is going to go this year. That will be in a later report.

Updated: Ok guys and gals here it is. Met with the orthopedic surgeon today and it appears that my acl has been gone for awhile now and I have fresh damage to both meniscus. He gave me 3 options. 1 no surgery, do physical therapy and live with a jello knee. 2 do minimal surgery clean up the meniscus, live without the acl, physical therapy and live with a jello knee. 3 full on surgery where they use a cadaver tendon or part of one of mine for the acl, clean up the meniscus, physical therapy, and be more stable. The later has a 10 day down time and 6-8 months for full recovery.
I’m leaning towards 3. Any thought or anyone have any first hand experience?
Btw, ordered mold #1 with laminate plate yesterday.

If you decide three research which tendon or hamstring if its yours. The healing process is different for the patella tendon and the hamstring. I prefer the hamstring rather than the inner part of the patella tendon, just me. Read and see what you would prefer to go through. I know young kids like the Ham more than the Patella in rehab. Seen several of these options and the 1st and 2nd make it rough as you get older.

Thanks for that info. If mine it would be the one on top of my leg/knee. He said he likes to use this one because it’s a wide, thick tendon. They cut a strip from the center and sew the left and right sides back together. Hope that makes sense. I’m really considering asking to have a cadaver tendon just to avoid any further cutting.

Update. Had my acl and meniscus surgery today. Everything went well. Now the fun begins. I am feeling very restless though. Not sure what that’s about. Anyway I’m still around and hope to post some new bait pictures by the end of the week.

Good news. Godspeed for a speedy recovery.

Good luck with the recovery!

Hope that things heal without a issue.

Thanks guys. Going to make the best of it. Got a good story for ya if you think you’re having a bad day.
Sunday I was in high gear to get final preparations around the house completed prior to surgery. Top of the list defrost one of earliest prototypes of deep freezers ever designed. Got it emptied out into coolers pulled it out to the back porch and away I went with the hairdryer. Shortly after I’m informed by my wife the washing machine quit working. Yep, it took a crap. motor seized up and it full of clothes and water. So, siphoned the water out of it and back to the freezer. Now I’m rushing around in a frenzy to get done. I asked that she boil some water so I can get the freezer done and deal with the washer. You see where this is going? That’s right, I tossed some water into the top shelf and it sloshed back out onto my arm leaving me with beautiful Art Deco patch work 1st and 2nd degrees burns. Blisters were almost instantaneous. I’ll exclude the salty language that was exchanged between the freezer, the pot and myself.
Upon returning from Lowe’s with a new washer and yes a new frost free freezer I got both put it in. Thank goodness my wife and kids were there to assist. Somewhere after the burns and installation of the new appliances I managed to torque my back. So how’s your week going?

What's that old saying about bad luck coming in threes? Or when it rains, it pours? Sorry to hear of the issues. At least you got those tended to BEFORE you had the surgery. Now you can focus on getting healed and PT so you can get back to what you love to do.
-
Sure hope you got the bad luck out of your system so you can have your surgery issue free.
