Title: I love this city life....
Post by: ctom on 10/02/19 13:56 UTC
About 20 minutes ago I took a break from messing in the shop out on the back deck that looks over the parkland. Out of the corner of my eye I caught some movement on the paved bike train and what should show but 6 deer walking along. They stopped long enough to look at me and then kept right on walking past. Not a care in the world. Where are they come deer season?

They learn from that first shot to hide but I'm convinced they have a calendar.

I don't live in the city but on the edge with plenty of other home around me. There's no hunting and we have a ton of deer. I worry more about driving around in the subdivisions in the mornings and evenings the I do the country road. In our case I truly believe it's because of the coyotes. They have forced the deer to have their young where it's safer and then they just stay here. So our deer have adapted to city life.

I see deer all the time from [in] the yard and not very far up the street. Lots of "green" areas nearby and then with the river and a creek right behind us with parkland deer have plenty of places to enjoy. We have coyotes here too but I think the deer are here simply because people won't harm them and they know it plus people plant all sorts of things that make great food and shelter. Bird feeders are a huge attraction for deer as are backyard fruit trees. It seems that what people do for their own comfort and happiness deer find much to their liking as well. Carole is the flower gardener and has become a major benefactor in deer food growing over the years. I find deer tracks in my veggie garden occasionally and am not happy about it but I seldom see them return the next night.
