Title: Open water
Post by: ctom on 03/06/20 13:29 UTC
Carole and I were on a bit of a tour this morning so she could visit a friend near the Mississippi River. Lots of open water there already while the marinas are still locked up in ice. There were a couple people out on the ice in these areas but a couple isn't what I call promising. On our way home I detoured over to the lake I love to early fish on and what should my eyes fall upon but wide open water right where I stand to fish. SO....the called went to my fishing buddy and maybe Monday we'll give it a shot.

Now I have my weekend to go thru the tackle bucket and inventory things. I may have to make a mess of baits for this excursion but that's OK as I need the practice after this winter.

Anyone else putting dimples on open water?

Anyone else putting dimples on open water?

If the warm weather keeps up it won't be long here in southern MI.

If I make it next week I'll be fully 2 1/2 weeks earlier than this lake has ever allowed me open casting from shore.

The lake I live on in northern Indiana opened up Wednesday. My grandson called and asked when I wanted to put the pier in!

I just called last night to where I store my boat and ask to pick it up next Saturday. I just got my order from Tackle Warehouse so today I'll be cleaning reels and adding fresh line while watching the Bassmasters Classic on TV. I'm so ready to fish.

The lake north of us is showing some rise now....not much but a rise. The snow sure took a hike here today with 52 degrees. Warmer tomorrow even, but rain maybe.

It’s great to hear that some of y’all have open water to fish! As a Texan, I could only imagine how hard it is to wait for open seasons/thaws just to wet a line.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda....up over three feet in a day. Won't be looking to fish the lake near me. But this should spell the end of the ice. May try the big river tomorrow in a couple of marinas thru ice from docks but will have to watch the weather on that idea. Rain today and possible for the next three days after today.

Still sub zero weather here in Alaska.
It's going to be at least a couple months before we hit open freshwater lakes.

A buddy and I went to the river and fished docks thru the ice but to no avail. We tried three different harbors and nobody was catching anything.

Back in January I'm pretty sure I seen a little ice one morning in the dogs water bowl! (Sorry, just couldn't resist it)
