My favorite fish.
Out here in Montana they are becoming more common place in some of the rivers and lakes.
They are also finally growing as my PB that I caught last year was 4.5 lbs.
I personally gotta say pound for pound nothing beats catching a small mouth!
Most of the ones we catch out here have the bright red eyes?
No sign of the bait you used?
Don't worry I wouldn't tell anyone!

2.5 thump grub and 2.5 k-grub they like rootbeer gold and black flake ,transparent green chartreuse with silver halo , solid white. In lakes were there bigger they like 3” and up in the ripper , 3.5” swim shad , 3”-4” tubes.but there a lot of was and things they will hit.

I had a pond in Iowa that I caught the same bass 5 years in a row. She weighed about 6 1/2 lbs the last time I caught her. The following winter the pond froze out all the fish in it. They claim the the snow cover lasted too long on the pond. A shame.

Lines that happens more then people know. Hope that this spillway holds up and gets repaired
it has damage from last year during high water flow. And the water flow keeps staying the same making it hard to fix it’s also privately owned and I don’t think the guy has the money to fix it. It would be a shame if we lost this spot.

That's when you wish you could win the lottery. That would make a great project.

Gotta love small water fisheries, especially those with smallies. North of Rochester the middle fork of the Zumbro River empties from the west into Lake Zumbro. This stretch offers some decent smallie fishing. The lake itself is a great fishery at times for some very nice smallies. I get the largest of the year for me right after ice out. Below the lake's dam there is a three mile stretch of water that is designated c/r smallie water and guys fishing it with kayaks and canoes, even waders, get some real bruisers. Most all of this is considered smaller water save for the lake.

The Mississippi has some outstanding smallie fishing given the extensive rock rip-rap for miles and miles.

And Lines...I love the red eyes in smallies. Just sets the rest of the fish's color off.

The Yak in my pic is a Jackson Cuda 12.  I have a Hobie Pro Angler 14  for most trips now. I go a lot of places that the fat girl is just too heavy and I use a Pelican Catch 100.

Yes they fit in the scupper holes. I got the fat beach wheels and they roll over anything.
