With the nation-wide up-tick in this covid crap, how will you change or adapt to it when it comes to hunting and fishing? Carole and I are nixing all holiday stuff and staying home....or at least that's what the banter around the house has been.
I just finished deer hunting and I drove solo each way each day. The nephew took a motel room and did not come to the house at all. When we were around the land owner we gave him a wide berth as well. I had been fishing with a buddy but then one of his kids' kids came in contact with covid so he's been side-lined for me. I have the deer processed pretty well to where I need them to start with my sausage making but will hold off until the little heat wave tomorrow and Thursday blows out of the areas and resume with the sausage on Friday when we'll be much cooler. Thursday I think I am going to do a solo shore shot to see if my nice crappies are still in the area we had them before getting stroked with this crap virus.
Bad stuff this virus. Hoping everyone has a safe holiday season and can sneak past any exposure. So with all the restrictions that are going to fly, what are ya'll going to do over this season?
-
Covid has certainly changed the way we do things. I have done some fishing but other than that just working around the house and making more baits than a man could use in a lifetime. My daughter came over Saturday and we all wore masks. There will be no family gatherings this year. Can't risk it with the wife's immune system. Hope this thing ends soon but I doubt that it will.
-
Glad that everyone is staying as safe as can be had another treatment today the 4th out of 12. And we are not doing holidays and staying apart.
olsarge hope things are well with you and yours.
TOM hope you and Carol stay safe.

We have not changed too much. We have been so busy since the storm at the shop selling lots of big truck parts and hydraulic hoses to the clean up folks. My family will be having Thanksgiving at our place but that will be only about 15 folks.

My wife is an RN in out patient surgery in a local hospital and I own a security company but am a working boss so in and out of homes and companies all day long. We both wear masks all day long and stay as much away from others as we can. On my times away I've been hiking, biking and fishing and now this the colder weather just down to hiking. Going to the gym has been gone since this started and I hate it. I now have what I call my 10 pound covid and hate it even more. We're working on that and the extra drink that is way to easy to have these days. The wife and I canceled several vacations and my buddy and I this would have been our 28th year going to Canada to fish and we couldn't cross the border. Last year we sat on the dock drinking a glass of Forty Creek and wondered what would end our years of coming up there. Near said covid. I truly hope it's just one year. Looking forward next week my wife and I are going to celebrate our 21 year anniversary by renting an air-stream that is made up high into a tree house. I know right ? Some messed up guy thought that one up, right ? The kids are all going to have their thing and we're just going to have ours. The covid life. Plans for the winter ? Not really sure. We're just taking one day at a time.

Here’s a rundown on what has changed for me. Since March we have done social distancing/mask wearing/sanitization thing. We’ve limited our trips to the store, gotten takeout but no inside dining, and just plain stayed home more. We have told our families we will not be taking part in thanksgiving or Christmas gatherings this year. When I’m around my parents I wear a mask even outside. My son is due to start college next fall so we are weighing our options concerning housing.
We did go on our annual beach trip this year. Just the four of us. Again no dine in, the wife limited her antique shopping to only a few shops the first hour they opened and we drove 20 or so minutes each day to find a secluded section of beach. And only one trip to the grocery store as they opened for the day.
I have told the guys I will not be going to bear camp this year since they stay in a nice but small cabin and ride share trucks and side by sides.
Hope everyone stays healthy and occupied during this mess. Hopefully these vaccines come through and are as effective as they’re touting them to be.
Hey Walleye Whacker, best of luck on the rest of them there treatments. Thoughts and prayers for ya.
-
Glad the rest of you are well
And thanks for thoughts and prayers I’ve got a 9 month old grandson to teach how to fish so god welling I’m going to do it.

Just about everything got canceled. The spring trout fishing trip with my fishing buddies was canceled. First time in 30+ years Kent and I didn't go the week after Memorial Day.
Kent and I also had our Canada smallmouth trip canceled.
I've been teaching online this fall. I am not fond of it, to say the least, but there is no choice. Winona State went into lockdown 2 weeks into the semester. Students were dropping like flies. I have not heard that anyone was seriously sick, but we made up for it in volume!
No Thanksgiving or Christmas with the kids and grandkids this year. Neva is not pleased, but it's just too risky.
Fishing on the Mississippi River has been terrible for just about everyone I know (except Tom!). Small to medium-sized Northern Pike where everywhere....largemouth and smallmouth must have gone down to Iowa!
I'm looking forward to 2021! I might just take up golf! (Just kidding....I hate golf!).
-
I am 65 and my life has changed very little. I don't wear masks . I go where I want and do what I want . If I get crap I leave or shop someplace else. I do wash my hands, use sanitizer and I take a regimen of things that boost my immune system . I have no fear . But what I have is my liberty. I will not comply.

I'm with you on that one. If you see me golfing then that's when you need to take my temperature.

I can understand your logic toadfrog. Who can you believe? Masks work, masks don't work. The media has blown this way out of proportion.
Be strong, have faith in the lord, and persevere. I'll be quiet now.

Only on the crappies Andrew. Only the crappies. Speaking of which I may give another go tomorrow morning if the wind isn't howling like it is this morning.
-
Hope you have a calm morning so you can catch lunch TOM.
-
Not much fishing today or tomorrow for me. Winds gusting to over 40 mph both days. Friday is looking good so far though. Could use another fish fry.
-
Gust to 35 got 1/2 hrs of casts but no one wanted to play just great to get out got my strike master 6” auger converted to a Dewalt 996 20 volt lithium ion 5 AH 1/2” hammer Drill and 12” extension and adapter for the drill. I’ve watched video’s were they drill 24 holes in a row so drilling 10-15 on most days should be no problem plus I don’t no what size holes the videoed mine is A 6”

Tomorrow; suppose to get up to 50 here. So, I'm going to pour lead outside. Got some pony jigs and football jig to pour. Today powder painted a bunch of swimbait heads , baked them and then put eyes on them.
-
Productive day there Gary. Going to be nice by me tomorrow and I’m going fishing. Then I have some 1/32-1/64 shad darts Jigs for the ice to pour and paint and if I have time start epoxying handles on rod project of 6 rods in all. This one is a 7’ ultra light fast action 1/32-3/16 minimal handle split grip That is light as a feather in your hand.

So much has changed in my life I don't even know where to start. Some of you know that I have worked as a critical care nurse in a trauma/burn ICU for the past 5-6 years in my state's largest and best hospital. I graduated with my master's degree in May; we had no celebrations, I didn't get to walk across a stage and the trip my wife and I had planned to celebrate our long journey through graduate school was cancelled.
Work was/is insane. March and April were a complete whirlwind when our hospital lacked the supplies and ability to test all of our patients and as a result hundreds of staff members were exposed to Covid. Many got sick, and unfortunately, a few even died. As time has gone by, our understanding of this virus and our treatment options and modalities have adapted and changed to best serve our patients; Even though our area is seeing a huge spike in cases much like what we experienced in the spring time, our rate of ventilator usage is not following that curve which is a positive sign. Recently, I have left my position as a bedside RN in the ICU to take an RN educator roll in one of our COVID ICU's and it has been an eye opening experience in the short time I have been here. This virus is brutal, unforgiving and it does not discriminate. I have taken care of some of the sickest patients in the southeast for years but I have never seen patients sick like this. Caring for these patients is hard, not only from a physical standpoint but a mental and emotional one as well. We choose this career path because we love people; we want to help people and our communities when they're hurt and see them healthier than when we started.
Unfortunately, this virus went from being a medical issue and turned into one of partisan politics to the detriment of everyone involved. Now, myself and many other healthcare workers feel this weird duality of caring for these incredibly sick patients and doing everything we can to ensure other people don't get sick or die and when we leave the hospital we go out into a world where people won't even do the bare minimum of wearing a mask to reduce the risk of transmitting the virus. Where is the empathy? Where is the love for our fellow man? I see the same things repeated over and over by certain members of the population about being complicit, it's a violation of their rights and civil liberties. It's none of those things; it is asking you to the do the absolute bare minimum to protect yourself and those around you. Do not mistake temporary inconvenience for oppression. If we ignore the reality of the world around us and refuse to do even the little things we will be forced to make very hard decisions in the future; decisions like who gets admitted to the hospital and who goes home to die, who gets the ventilator when there are so few left, should we take this person off the ventilator because their chance of survival is so infinitesimally small so that this other person may live. The sooner we mitigate case transmission rates, the sooner we can get back to doing the things we love. Hopefully a number of vaccine trials will finish up here in the next several months and we will be able to vaccinate our most vulnerable populations.
We still have a long way to go. We have learned a lot of difficult, painful lessons along the way and they were paid for in human lives. Be safe, stay healthy, and be kind to one another.

bassinfool, appreciate the insight and the work you are doing. It is difficult to be certain about anything these days, but do agree we should all be doing what we can.
-
I agree 100% Bassin. 100%. I'm fine with our state's mask mandate and wish it were a national thing, no exceptions.
On another note......I'll thank you and the missus for taking on this huge task all the while being teased by this virus. I certainly appreciate what you're doing even though we have not met. I appreciate any and all first line workers who are taking care of this tired country.
-
Thank you bassin. I hear much of the same from my wife and her fellow workers. My wife came home Friday in tears. They are being totally over worked trying to contain this thing. Married to her for 21 years and her working with the medical sergeants at the hospital I've learned I'm pretty stupid when it comes to medicine. And most other people are too. That's why when it comes to medical advice I listen to the doctors. They have no reason to lie to me. So my advice to anyone that is wondering what they should do is call your primary care physician and ask them. Again they have no reason to lie to you and they know the area and you. You'll get a straight answer on what you should be doing to help all of us get through this.
-
Basin thank you for expressing your thoughts on this matter. You have stated exactly what I feel only far more eloquently than I could. Thanks again and best wishes.
-
Thanks for the healthcare people bassinfool and wife for all that your doing in this difficult virus situations were I live in a small town in Wisconsin people still aren’t wearing masks I wear one all the time when I’m out and won’t stop anywhere to shop if there are more then 2-3 cars in the lot. So many people don’t care about themselves or any one else and that’s why this virus is still growing as fast as it is and will continue because people don’t do what they should be doing. Stay safe healthcare people we would be in a world of s- - - without your talents.
-
Without copying Bassinfools reply, I agree with him wholeheartedly. Do what you can but you have to live. Wear your mask. Isolate and follow the CDC guidelines if you get the virus. Please remember, if you do get this, it’s not your fault. It’s an indiscriminate virus like the flu. Just isolate and follow CDC guidelines. I have been working overtime since this whole thing started as an essential employee. My whole company. We will get through this. Just this past week, promising news from some drug companies regarding vaccines and their approval. We will be delivering them world wide.
-
AP....thank you for the extra that you're providing right now. This is a bad time and to go the extra mile means much to so many!
-
I appreciate the gratitude and to hear you all are doing your part to keep yourself, your families and your communities safe! I have had several people ask me "What can we do for you and other healthcare workers?" When they say that, most mean things like sending food, cards, Starbucks, etc. If you really want to know what we want it is for our country to come together as one and fight this virus head on. As I have already said before, by doing the simple things like wearing a mask and responsibly socially distancing now we can avoid making much harder, almost impossible decisions, later on down the road.
I had a discussion earlier this week with a work colleague about this situation as we were looking over Covid data from our institution and others in our area. As we were talking he said something that really stuck with me: After the 9/11 attacks we saw a divided country (although not to the extent we seem to be right now) come together despite our color, creed, nationality, religion, what have you and banded together in order to fight our common enemy. 2,605 American citizens perished that day and it spurned a national call to arms both in a figurative and literal sense. Well, we are at nearly 2,000 deaths per day and over 250,000 deaths total since this started and yet we still can't come together. Why? What has changed? This isn't the America that I learned about growing up in school who goes out of its way to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. We have to come together.
I know you all are tired of wearing masks, not being able to see your families, go to a sports event and all the other things we love to do. No one is more tired and frustrated than healthcare workers, that much I can assure you. All we're asking for is a chance to slow the spread so that we aren't completely overwhelmed.
-
I won't be wearing a mask. But then I don't go around people . Just my nature. Why? Beer is good and people are crazy. :P

If you're not around people then there should be no reason to wear a mask. I greatly limit my time around others, especially since I live in an area where non-compliance is very high unfortunately. Beer is good. That's why I have been brewing a lot of it lately! Next to asking my wife to marry me several years ago, buying kegs is one of the best decisions I have ever made! ;)

The Hunter/Gatherer in me has been doing a lot of dirt fishing lately. No mask required and can always squeeze in a quick hunt anytime anywhere.

I have been swinging an older Tesoro but am looking to upgrade.
-
Check mag online from time to time they have story’s and reviews on detecters and there are plenty of adds for them to.
-
That's neat, Kyle. There are several interesting sites around where I currently live that I am sure I could find relics from the Civil War and even earlier if I had the equipment and time to do so.
-
That would be a neat hobby.

There is another mag that’s called North and South that’s on the civil war that good to.

Interesting stuff. Old Coins are my fix right now but I think finding old relics would really be something. I have found some old metal piano keys recently from some early 1900's houses. The hobby gives you a different look at things and how they were in the past, old road beds etc. The historical component has given me some unique perspectives.
-
It makes things interesting when we do different things. Because we look at things from a different perspective.

Just working everyday!! Only 3 people and 3 guards. Staying clear of everyone!!
