Guys over the years I’ve gotten pretty addicted to catching smallmouth & hardly ever catch largemouth anymore. Been fishing with a buddy for over 20 years & we used to do pretty good in tournaments, but after taking s break from them we started fishing smallmouth way more & using different lures. Long story short my buddy isn’t able to bass fish anymore so I’ve been going by myself a lot so I was bound & determined that I was going to figure the largemouth out agin. Long story short I’ve been catching all largemouth & some pretty good ones too for over a month by getting in the creeks & fishing big ribbon tail worms. This is a tough tough lake & ive been doing far better than any of my buddy’s & flat enjoying myself again more than in a long time. Proof the old school stuff still work as good as ever

Yes sir. We use ribbon tail worms a lot down here. I was Grinnel fishing but look at the bass my buddy caught in 2 feet of 90 degree water.

A big ribbon tail worm is hard to beat in summer heat.

Ribbon tails work great, Senko, buzz baits, poppers, jitter bugs, brush hogs, spinner jigs, swim baits, jerk baits, heddon spook, heddon torpedo, whopper poppers, and a lot of others.
Generally I’ve found all the good old stuff and new stuff to work. I think people just tend to move away from the old style stuff towards the newer stuff do to what companies are pushing marketing wise.
I’ve been doing a lot of Large Mouth Bass fishing lately. Each trip I tie on a different lure and fish with it the entire trip…which is usually 2 - 3 hrs. Just to refine and learn/use different ways.
Today I fished a frog…..it’s a blast seeing them hit it and throwing into the Lilly pads and grass. Hook ups were a 50/50 on strikes….but man it was fun fishing in all that vegetation and getting some major strikes.
Trip before was a whopper popper caught 50 fish. It was crazy every cast caught one…I quit since I was sick of unhooking them.
Next trip……the old hula popper is coming out.

I’ve got a few old hula poppers to throw too.

On largemouth my fishing partner will fish a worm just about all day long. I'm the other way. I'll toss a buzz bait in the morning and flip a jig after that. As a rule he will always out fish me but I'll normally catch the bigger fish. Most of our tournaments are won on a limit with a kicker. That's not to say a worm doesn't catch big fish because every now and then he'll wack a four or five pounder.

My partner and I are the same , he is in front of boat with jig ,, I follow with my senko style worm.. He catches more big fish than me , But I have to fish what he already fished and caught "maybe" the bigger fish that was in that spot before I fish it ? ? That's what I tell him anyway . LOL.

Loaded the boat again last night. Hopefully it continues the next two nights too. All on the big worm.

Wind blew last night & I honestly believe it was to bright. I still caught fish on a little bit darker banks, but not the numbers I have the last few nights. Couldn’t get bit on banks with real bright moonlight shining on them even though I have every time there in the last month. All fish still on the big worm though
