Title: 2 1/4" Frys for trout
Post by: ctom on 02/03/22 08:53 UTC
I did these up for a buddy who likes to fish trout thru the winter. I did a few for him a couple years ago and he said he did well with them on a 1/32 head with a #6 hook run shallow along the back casting to where riffles run into deeper water. He really like the natural appearing baits for this, and these fit the bill.

The Hyper Series Solar Shad eyes really finish the baits off nice.

The belly color is clear plastic with Party Crasher glitter. The back color gets started as a clear with some black chunks tossed in to make a medium smoke, then I added a couple small pieces of watermelon with black flake and finished with a bit of blue hilite.

Thanks, Les.

The more I look at these baits the more I love those eyes. The suckers look like they could burn a hole in ya.

I agree. I haven't ordered a crappie lure mold yet. I'm going to see exactly how interested i get in it before i do, but i know if i do that one will be one of them for sure & some of those eyes too. I spent a $100.00 gift card on crappie lures at scheels the other day anyway.  ;D

It doesn't take long to get $100 on the till's register tape when buying any kind of tackle today. Crappie specific plastics aren't too bad but compared to home spun they are expensive. And if you make them the colors are at your finger tips and generally the home crafted colors are better than the store bought even if they are available. I don't use many colors that stores stock.

I use more 1.5" Thump-Its than any bait. I do fish the Crappie Fluke some when the water is warm. The 2" Gliders are great as is the Go-Go Grub, also when the water is warm. That 1.5" Thump-It spends more time on my rigs than anything though. I start the day with one and end the day with one.
