Personally, I am ready for the smell of mud. We finally saw 30 degrees here yesterday, so I did chicken on the grill. While it was cooking, I started the JD tractor to let it run a while. Then I started the tiller....and lawn mower. I already knew the snowblower and lawn blower run well having had several sessions with each.
We were short on precip going into the winter and to date we are quite short of the annual amount of snow we generally get and much of what we have had for snow has been drier, lighter snow. Its tournament time here in Minnesota and that can mean ugly weather and blizzards. So far, we are not seeing too much of that. But for the record, I'd be fine with rain. The rivers and lakes need some water and rain would be the fastest way to get them some. The Mississippi River locally needs about 4 feet of water just to get to normal levels and flow rates. The lake I fish locally has been pulled down to winter level since December but when they begin to bring it back up, I am pretty sure it will take quite a while to get to normal summer pool.
Maybe my concerns are just my want for winter to go elsewhere. One thing is for certain though: I am ready for the smell of mud and the sound of water. Spring can't get here soon enough.

I am there with you Tom. Our West coast weather can't make up its mind. We have had everything from 16 degrees to 50s within a two day span. The trees and budding out, a few flowers are showing up, and the ducks are laying eggs like crazy. It's like the car that wants to start, just can't quite get there.

I am in Michigan and am also ready for spring. The older I get ( pushing 62 ) the more I do not like winter. I used my propane salamander heater today and made 2 batches of soft plastics. I have not done many baits since early November. Bring on spring please !!

Amen to all of the above. I'm starting to get tired of making jigs and flies! About time to start putting new line on the rods.

Actually I was referring to Lamar. I'm laughing after seeing that 2 pound bass he's holding in his avatar....makes him [Lamar] look like he weighs about fourteen pounds.

It was near the mid-40's here today so almost as warm as Costa Rica. My buddy and I took a drive to the Mississippi today top check on things, then drove past a couple lakes on the way home. Pretty disappointing. Very few black spots in the ice. Water levels are low everywhere here, so flow rates are poor. We've not had a ton of snow here and tons of below zero weather all winter, so the ice thicknesses are unreal. There's rain in the forecast over the next few days and while the forecast may mess up the plans Ma and I had the weather may work well for my wanting this white and ice to disappear.

It was mid 50s here today, but the rain has been a lot the last few days. The weather folks called it an atmospheric river. Was a new one for me. Anyhow, we ended up with about 5" over the last few days. It appears to have stopped for now as the sun has peaked out for the evening. The family ducks are happy however, so that's good.

Nice Lamar. If we get the storms they’ve predicted for tonight and tomorrow we might see some waterfalls around here where there usually are none.

Gorgeous view. ;)
