Post by: DobynsTriton on 04/24/12 06:49 UTC
Tried the griddle suggestion out & it worked exactly how i hoped it would.

(I got a little sloppy on the belly pour) other than that i like it

Nice clean lines Bro.  Are You using a "Light Box" to take those pics in?  Your Colors are showing up really well...

thanks man, i use the oven hood it has a dim,med & high brightness setting, i just layed them on a piece of printer paper. The only thing i gotta do is take the pic from the right angle so it shows the colors.

I do like how the Color turned out...it's quite Transparent, quite Fishy, and for Inland Saltwater, I already know they're gonna kill 'em.  BUT, Your Green Pumpkin-based Color is Bangin'.  I'm going to be playing with Green Pumpkin in a Baitfish imitation before long...Your "TN Shad" baits would'a took a few dollars out of my pocket had I saw them in a Tackle Shop (even with the Cold Lines).  As PJM said, "that Back Color is wicked"...roger on'nat.

But overall, I think the "Dob's Salty Minner" is versatile.  It's a natural color, nice and transparent like alot of Saltwater (even Freshwater) minnows, Watermelon-based so it's a Time-Tested Classic color, and the 5" Skinny Carrot goes really well on a 5/0 SkipGap hook so I'll definitely be throwing it in Freshwater as a Twitch/Jerk.  On a JigHead, the Speckled Trout and Flounder won't be able to stand the 3.5" Carrot.  "Dob's Salty Minner" is in my Book and will stay...as "Dob's Salty Minner".  Feel free to take it...it's got Your name on it...  :D

Sweet! agreed its really bait-fishy, i plan on seeing what i can do about covering most the shads.something like a thread fin, gizzard possibly a sexy or chart sexy. On Kentucky lake they eat it all sexy, chart sexy, gizzard, blue gizzard & chart black back. . Speaking of skip gap that is the BEST hook ive found for this type of swimbait IMO. the ''v bend'' of that hook sits in & is perfectly lined with the tiny hook slot on the belly.

You're gonna be focusing on the Shad's, and there's several ways to build a Shad imitation...it seems that alot of guys don't like the Opal flake, but I did something with some Fire Opal flake a little while back that Straight Up Cranked My Outboard...just an idea...

Green Opal Minner  http://www.caneycreekmolds.net/index.php?topic=892.0 (http://www.caneycreekmolds.net/index.php?topic=892.0)

Jason doesn't have anymore of the .035" Fire Opal flake, but if You're interested in some, he'll probably be able to point You in the right direction.  I haven't played with this Flake much since the Green Opal Minner, but I think it'd be a good option in a "Starting Foundation" color when imitating the Shad's...IMHO.

Green Opal Minner Close-Up  http://www.caneycreekmolds.net/index.php?topic=893.0 (http://www.caneycreekmolds.net/index.php?topic=893.0)

And that SkipGap hook is a Beast.  The 1st time I shot the 3.5" BT 637, I rigged one with the 5/0 and ain't looked back...perfect.  That 637 is Heavy Bodied so it casts well, weightless.  I like it alot.  BT has a 3.75" Shad (huge hook-slot...perfect large-size Shad body) that's on my List, along with a few others.  MAN I'm ready to go wet a line!!!

I bought a total of 12 oz.s of .035" Fire Opal flake from Jason.  I've only made that 1 batch out of it.  If You're interested, PM me Your address and I'll send You some.
