We lost a local solider recently and I wanted to share the public's reaction. The streets were lined with American flags, and people, from Sulpher Springs to Yantis to show their support to the family, and gratitude for the young mans sacrifice. Being prior Navy, and also serving in the Persian Gulf, I was deeply moved by the response of the entire community.
What really surprised me was how the fishermen responded. I posted a picture on our Facebook wall, if you mouse over the blue "F" on the left of the page it will show it. Boats on the lake lined up along the highway carrying American flags as the procession moved through the area.
There is nothing anyone can do to substitute for the loss of this young man, but the respect the community showed the family made me proud.
The media coverage of the war has really slowed. I guess it's not the hip thing to talk about now. Well, we are still at war, and men and women are still loosing their lives. Remember, these are soldiers, not politicians. They are just following orders. So regardless of how you feel about things politically, if you see a Vet let them know you appreciate their sacrifice.
God Bless our troops!

While I absolutely think that people take to heart the lose of a soldier from their home area, its never easy to watch. As kid during the Viet nam thing I knew many who did not come home as they left. Some of these boys were good friends. My heart goes out to the families of the fallen.

This really hit me when I heard about his family waiting on him to come home. They expected him earlier but they had to sit around and wait several days for him to arrive. It reminded me of the song, "Angel Flight" by Radney Foster.
