Title: Spinnerbait wire rusting
Post by: pengerran on 05/15/24 03:47 UTC
I bought my spinnerbait wire forms form Jannscraft and Barlow's and they are rusting after a couple weeks use.  Is this something I'm doing or the shafts?

Welcome aboard the Do-It forums!

The wires should be stainless and not rust. Are you certain it's not the clevises that are rusting?

I've made spinnerbaits for a long time and never have seen the wires rust. I've seen the blades tarnish and the hooks rust but never the wires.

Tinned music wire will rust, and it has been used for making spinnerbaits. Most wire forms are stainless steel, and with wire, there's only a limited number of stainless steel types that can be made into wire, and they don't usually rust.

Make sure what you have purchased is stainless, and if so, contact Jann's and talk to them about the issue.

I've had blades rust, as some are steel, but have never had clevises rust. They're usually made from nickel plated brass and if they corrode it's green.
