Hi all, it's been a minute, and Happy New Year to everyone. With that being said, I was wondering if the 1/32 tube jig pictured here would work for the small 1.8" crappie tubes I'm making soon? I ordered the mold and wasn't thinking about needing a jig head for it, but it looks like a lot of lead; will it weigh the tube down too much? I just thought I'd ask before buying it. I like a slow sink rate for my crappie baits. Thanks

Those jig heads should work just fine. I shoot a 1.8 inch jacob molds tube molds that uses 1/8 inch rods. I use standard comercially available jig heads that fit it perfectly. I use the 1/32 95 per cent of the time though,

I agree with Sarge. The 1/16 might be a bit much for a 1.8" tube if you like a slower drop rate. If I changed anything I might use the Mustad 32889 Light Wire hook to lighten the head up even more.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate that. Yes, I was thinking of using 1/32" for the tubes, but it looked like a lot of lead, so I figured I'd better ask. Thanks again.

I have that jig mold and use the 1/32 in 1.5" & 2" tubes, and if I want to use a lighter weight, I'll pour 1/64 oz ball heads without a collar on the size 6 hooks, and they fit in the tubes just fine.

I use 15lb braid with a 10 lb clear mono leader for my crappie fishing & i never go below a 1/16 head on a 1.5, 1.8 or 2" crappie tube that i'm livescoping with. Get's a good slow fall & if fishing it deep a add a # 5 split shot above the double uniknot that i attach the leader to. I fish this setup down to 40 feet deep catching open water suspended fish. I couldn't imagine fishing a 1/32 oz. but i know a lot of folks do. Wouldn't this be for very slow fall & shallow fishing?

You are correct les. I fish shallow waters. I use 3 pound braid to a 4 pound floro leader. I can cast out let it sink to near the bottom and slowly twitch it back and never touch bottom. If I went heavier than that I would have to reel it in to fast or use a bobber.
