Alright - this is my second go round with the Twinjector.
What are your recommendations or top three tips for getting a good two color bait?
Plastic temp?
-
watch your temps, make sure they are close to the same
slow even pressure on the handle
practice

Also watch out for getting air in them. I think the biggest key is temp / practice.

I just scored a used one (6oz) for $125. Keep the tips/suggestions coming, as I'm sure once I start using it, I'm gonna need them!
-
Pull plastic in slowly and inject slowly. Take your time with the twininjector. Rushing is what causes issues I believe.
I use mine almost everyday and LOVE the results. Once you get it, you can make laminates so freaking fast it is crazy. Just cook 2 cups of plastic and shoot it all!

you get your best results if the plastic is on the cooler side. you would be surprised how cool the plastic can be. just make sure the injector, blending block and mold are warmed up.

Thank you for all the comments. The temp is really helping keep the plastic where I want it.

Someone on another site was talking about getting the lams to come out right and suggested that brown colored plastic was thicker than green colored plastic and it should be hotter so it flows in the mold at the same rate as the green. Any of you experienced twin injector guys run into this?
-
Not with brwons and greens ever. They cook pretty close if they are both opaque or transluscent. Problem you run into is when one color is light and one is darker. They heat unevenly and then one will overrun the other color.

Made the coolest looking core shot baits ONCE checked temps one was 350 and one was 300 since I heated them togather assumed they was the same temps. Tried to repeat it but no luck came out looking like crap the second time :-\
Thinking now I need a second microwave.
-
Has anyone tried doing small crappie type baits with the twinjector? If so how did they turn out??
-
Will let you know real soon. Doing ice and panfish baits. Waiting on the 1" fry to come out!!!
Should work flawlessly.

Have used the Twinjector on small baits molds for years now. You will be surprised on what you can do with it. Big or small it can be done. Just keep the temps close and if you see a little swirling lower the temps a bit. Frank
-
Frank your videos are amazing btw. Very helpful! Probably the deciding factor in me getting one. I hope you at least get advertising discounts :) Non the less thanks for takin the time out to make them.

I think it is true Frank. I am doing 1" or less baits so I will let you know on the real small stuff how things go. I feel sure it will perform as it does on any other molds, flawless!
I will be busting out a 4 color nano fry next week!!!!!!! :D

Blows away my 1 color baits with a dipped head!
I'll try a Dual Injector...plus dipped head...just for laughs...but everyone needs to be kind! :P
-
if i dip in clear plastic does that count as a triple color? ;D
-
I've seen someone use the lam plate and twinjector to do a four color but it was a wutzit not a 1inch bait. Oh and the flannel shirt just had me cracking up lol!
-
I tried the twinjector out and this thing can be frustrating to say the least. The injectors seem to be not so smooth. I think I'm just spoiled by Jason's stuff. Either way I'm getting the two colors mixing together. I tried temps from 320-350 and no change. I think it's my pushing of the injector. I'm going to take a break and come back to it and see if I can push it a bit slower. Just seems hard to get a smooth slow fluid motion with these. Any tips are greatly welcomed.

mine i lubed mine up a little & the screw caps towards the top i have barely tightend
-
I lubed it with worm oil and that helped a bit but I'm going to loosen those caps up top a bit. I tightend everything down before I started so that could be playing a part. I need to make sure I'm getting the colors to a close temp too. Never realized how much faster a translucent heats up compared to a opaque. I'm one of those guys that are quick to get frustrated so I've learned to step away rethink take pointers and come back. Keeps throwing things out of my life ;)
-
same here, sometimes its better just to come back to it after im done bein fristrated
-
I honed the inside of mine. Much better
-
I can't see putting any type of lubrication in mine. It may be great at the time but what happens over time when it mixes with tiny pieces of plastic and dust. Seems like eventually you will be taking the whole thing apart and trying to clean some gunk out that you put in. Never have taken mine apart as it might be a tiny bit stiff on the first shot but the heat will loosen evert
One thing I learned by accident is you can leave the last bit of plastic in your twinjectors when you are finished for the night. Next day, that thing will move as slick as can be. The oils from the plastic leech out a bit and lub it I guess. I still dont do that but it might help. I would be leary of adding lubricant into my set up as eventually that will gunk up. Just me though and it might work great.
Also remember, WD-40 is a fish attractant and lubricant.
-
One tip on the Twinjector, dont keep things tight. The top bar a little loose and the top of the tubes loose. Aluminium is not by for the best material for this but it is afordable. Kevin does hone the tubes but when you put two next to each other ther is just to much rubbing of aluminium to be smooth. I have a set that have linear bearings at the top and stainless rods, what a big differance. But the price, I will just leave it at that. And it is a Twinjector too. Jims thing about leaving plastic over night is the best idea of all. Overtime it will smooth out. The beat temp for laminates is as low as you can shoot. And I am talking about 290-310. Swirling comes from to high of a temp. Try it and see let the temps start out high and let them drop while you work. Just before you cant shoot it will be the best laminates. I have to heat my plastic and let it cool for some colors. Frank
-
I agree with Frank. keep your injectors loose. To tight and it will bind up. Mine where tight and hard to use at first until I loosend the screw cap at the top of the tube a bit. Everything has been smooth shooting ever sense. I also shoot my lams in the 320 range. I haven't had any swirl yet. There is a learning curve, just be patient you will get the hang of it.

If anyone can get a good looking 4 color Nano Fry I will be extremely impressed because it is so small. Here's a challenge: If you can make a stunning Nano Fry I will buy a bag and feature it on our Facebook page promoting you and your company (or just you). If you don't want to be featured you can just claim bragging rights.
Let the creativity begin!

Nice challenge!!!! Big challenge to me will be making a bag full. Might be able to get one or 2 good ones but a bag full will really be tough. No air bubbles and consistent colors over all the baits will be hard.
If you have a laminate plate, you will have an advantage on this small bait.
My mold will be here this week I hope so I am hoping to be able to do some interesting 1 and 2 color baits. 4 color, doubt it!

I have done a 3 color with it BUT noway would I want to do a 4 color. As soon as someone saw it they would have to have it in this color and that color. Takes way to much time unless your just doing them for yourself.

You have nano fry already? Post 3 color pics!

Awesome!! You rock man! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Is that glo or uv blue
-
its glow, thanks
-
You ever tried the UV additive
-
I use it all the time, pretty good stuff
-
Are all of those dipped? Do you make them without dipping or do you have to dip due to the slight cracks from dealing with the small amounts of plastic?
I was planning on dipping but might try to get away with no dip on some just to see the difference.
Jim
-
I dip most everything cause I put eyes on A LOT of baits. you can get away from it if you keep your molds on the griddle to keep your first or second color hot and less heat loss while injecting. Small sprue leads to cooler running plastic so keeping the molds hot helps a lot
-
Mine is coming I am in and will try to do four colors. Bought my first laminate plate too. Watch me crash and burn on this one. Frank

OK got my mold and have one thing to say IT IS REAL SMALL. Two colors piece of cake, four I will let you know but color choice is going to be key. Getting it to not have cold cracks is going to be hard too.

Agreed! Made a few different 3 colors + 1 dip color and then one 5 color + dip color to = 6 colors. Have to dip and see what they look like though. No 3mm eyes but these are for the gill pills so no eyes really needed.
Gonna have to figure out colors like Franks says as I used black and smoke blue. Doubt you can see the difference.
I hand poured all my colors by using my 1 cup pryex cups except for the last 2 shot with the twinjector.

Here is a shot of the first ones I made! LOL! Got work to do!!! 3 color with 1 color dip.
Pearl belly, chartreuse middle and brown/pumpkinseed color, dipped in iridescent pearl glow.
No eyes yet so just dipped a couple. Eyes will make these look so much better in the pics.
Second shot is rigged on a #10 Gill Pill for comparison.

Sadly, my 6 color came out great but you cannot tell the difference in some of the colors. I will definitely do something else with better planning. I will post a pic of them later.
Also have noticed my camera is lacking for these smaller baits. Might have to upgrade!

Couple other shots. Not alot of light today (rain coming) so these are the best I can do for now.

Green pumpkin, iridescent pearl belly, dipped in glow. #10 Gill Pill

6 colors.... Chartreuse tail, red throat, pearlescent belly, black middle, smoke pearl blue top and dipped in iridescent pearl glow plastic. #10 Gill Pill
I have some other colors to use on the next 6 color bait I thought of. These just didn't blend well but like to put up the not-so-good as well as the good.
