Title: Been in the Lab for a while
Post by: Brent on 07/24/12 15:06 UTC
I have bounced question off a couple of you in my search of making the baits I want. Ive talked with Andrew about panfish baits and ice fishing and that got me started with the right molds, I recently talked with Ctom about making "glow" baits.

As you can see they are bright and the "glow" last a long time, not like the store bought baits

Baits in this batch are the ice pick, the 1 5/8 ice pick,1.75 and 2.5 Fry.

Neat! Now some questions. Were those crappies caught at night or during the day? Summer or ice fishing? Did you try regular colored baits to compare catch rates? Was the size of the bait important (maybe just a tail in glow would be better than the whole bait?) It looks to me that your on to something. Thanks for sharing.

Good questions. Personally I do as well in the daylight in deeper water with glow as I have when the lights are out.

Its been hot as heck outside so we have been night fishing, have the lakes to ourselves also a plus. As far as the bait size and choice, I have use all baits pictured. I will start with 2.5 fry and work the aggressive fish, then down size as the bite slows. 1.5 fry, 1-5/8 ice pick, down to the 1 inch ice pick.
We did try watermelon as well as black and chartruse with limited success, they worked higher in the water closer to light sources, both lakes are very clear.

I will be using them during icefishing as well. I'm praying for ice!!!! 129 days to go!!!

Thanks for the comments!!!

Brent do you mind if I ask what glow product you used in your baits?

Sorry for the late reply, work has been crazy with these storms. I purchased the www.Glowinc.com product.

I had a hard time with the camera and auto-focus, the glow is good but now where near the intensity of the green

It might be a good thing that it is not so intense. Really do not know just started testing with the glow powders too.
What do you get if you mix a little green into the red?  Glow Brown?
