Tried making some 3.5" swim toads that float.
I used the microballons. Four heaping tablespoons per 4 oz plastic. I also added one tablespoon of softener to the medium plastic. The heated plastic was VERY white and very opaque. I added ALOT of green and black color to get a decent green. I added 062 black and white glitter and they dont show at all.
Bait is soft and stretchy and seems fairly durable.
Using a 1/0 ewg Gammy it just floats. The nose floats but barely. I havnt tested yet, but braid or a high rod tip should fish it well.

Dang. You are braver than me, Bill. I will not mess with those microballoons. Scares the heck outta me.
With that said, though- thanks a bunch for figuring out the formula to float the hook. But- a 1/0 hook? I may be a bit off tonight, but isn't that a bit small for that frog? (feel free to set me straight!)

I was thinking the same thing. It might work though.

Awesome Toad! Just my opinion, but I think a 2/0 or 3/0 light wire hook would work fine for this one. I use them on my croaker and they work fine.

I have what is called a "core cutter" somewhere around the house. A couple years back I used it to cut cores out of solid body frogs like the one shown entering from the rump end and then I just nipped the ends off the cores and glued them back in the holes so the frogs had three or four hollow chambers. I used a double hook on them so I wouldn't compromise the chambers and it worked slick.
I should get a frog mold since fishing them and top-waters are the only ways I really like fishing bass.
